A total of 589 students from 104 countries (or regions) participated in this competition. Affected by the epidemic, members of the Chinese national team took the "online exam", which was hosted by the School of Mathematics at Peking University and Beijing International Mathematics Research Center .

Among the six members of the Chinese team, Qu Xiaoyu, a freshman from Bashu Middle School, won the gold medal with perfect scores.

According to information announced on the official Weibo of Bashu Middle School, Qu Xiaoyu won the first prize of the National High School Mathematics League in 2021 and was selected for the Chongqing Provincial Team; in 2021, he won the China Mathematical Olympiad gold medal and was selected for the national training team; in April 2022, Selected into the Chinese national team for the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad.
