Sony significantly increased the production of PS5 compared with last year, and shipments to the United States increased by 400% year-on-year. David Gibson, senior analyst at

MST Financial, shared a statistic on Twitter showing a surge in shipments to the United States in September (see below).

Gibson said the addition was partly to prepare for the release of "God of War: Ragnarok" on November 9, but the increase in shipments was due to the purchase of PS5 in the U.S. during the holiday season. This is usually a good sign for those considering buying.

Sony's next-generation PS5, like the entire technology industry, has suffered serious production problems since its launch in 2020 due to chip shortages and the pandemic.

Interestingly, last year there was news that this chip shortage will continue until September 2022, when Sony will increase its shipments of PS5.

Despite these difficulties, Sony has sold more than 20 million PS5s as of June 2022, down from its initial 2021 sales target of 3.3 million by March 2023. It is expected to sell another 18 million units.
