Tech Planet October 31, senior Apple leaker Mark Gulman recently revealed that Apple is expected to release a new Mac equipped with an M2 processor at the earliest in early 2023.
Gulman said Apple plans to launch upgraded Macs in the first quarter of 2023, including 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with M2 processors, and may be released in bundled with macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3. These software updates are expected to take place between early February and early March next year.
news said that Apple is stepping up testing of the new MacBook Pro and the new Mac mini, and is also accelerating the development of the first Mac Pro equipped with Apple Silicon processor.
The new MacBook Pro will continue to maintain the appearance of existing models, but Apple will replace the M1 Pro and M1 Max with the first-generation M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. The CPU core of the M2 Max processor will increase from 10 to 12, and the GPU core will increase from 32 to 38.
The new Mac mini is still under development, and Apple is also testing models that use the same M2 processor as the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, as well as models that are equipped with the M2 Pro processor (increasing the number of CPUs and graphics cards). If Apple does launch a Mac model with the M2 Pro, it can be expected that the company may phase out models that are still using Intel processors.
It is reported that Apple originally planned to release a new MacBook Pro as early as this fall, but the company has put the plan on hold. During the earnings call for fiscal 2022 fiscal fourth quarter (third natural quarter) held last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the product range will not be launched this holiday season.
Apple's chief financial officer Luca Maestri gave a clearer attitude. He said Apple's revenue growth will slow from last quarter as of the holiday season ended December 31, partly because it won't release a new MacBook Pro this year as it did last year.
In October 2021, Apple launched the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max processors, which contributed $10.9 billion in revenue to Macs during the holiday season. This year, Mac revenue is expected to be much lower than that.
It is worth mentioning that although the new Mac computer will not be available until next year, Apple will still launch upgraded software. Updates to iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 started beta testing last week and should be released in mid-December. Apple had earlier hoped to take the opportunity to release the MacBook Pro, but it didn't make much sense to launch a new Mac in December.
