The rumors about Nvidia's update to GeForce RTX 3060 Ti seem to be true. UK retailers scan computers (via video Katz) (opens in a new tab) list Nvidia's unannounced GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and upgraded GDDR6X memory.
Nvidia launched the original GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in 2020, but the chipmaker will launch a second variant earlier this year. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti utilizes the GA104 chip, while the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 (as its unofficial name implies) uses the GA103 chip. This is a mold exchange from Nvidia, as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 retains exactly the same specification as the vanilla model. However, Gree RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X shows off a significant upgrade to the memory subsystem.
It is not clear whether the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X uses GA104 or GA103 chips. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X with a 1,410 MHz reference clock and a 1,670 MHz boost clock are shown in the basket. The base clock is the same as the Gree RTX 3060 Ti; however, the boost clock is 5 MHz higher. It's no big deal, as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X still has a maximum FP32 performance of 16.2 TFLOP.
The memory quota between Gree RTX 3060 Ti and Greex RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X remains unchanged at 8GB. Both models still comply with the 256-bit memory bus. However, the Gree RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X has faster memory. The Gree RTX 3060 Ti has a GDDR6 of 14 lbs/s, while the Gree RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X has a GDDR6X of 19 Gbps. The additional firepower will drive the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X to 608 GBps memory bandwidth, 36% higher than the regular version.
Gree RTX 3060 and Gree RTX 3060 Ti GA103 comply with 200W TDP standards, but the Gree RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X models may have higher ratings. Compared to GDDR6, GDDR6X consumes less power per transmission bit. Nevertheless, the GDDR6X has higher total power consumption as it runs at faster frequencies.
Nvidia UK listed the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X at $409 for £369. It's even cheaper than some custom models. The Gree RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is only $10 more than the MSRP of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. It's nice to see the GDDR6X premium only raises the price by 3%.
