R3D?
R3D is a wavelet encoding format unique to RED cameras, which is equivalent to RAW format. Simply put, the pixels seen by the naked eye are not compressed, it only compresses the file format. Use R3D to shoot, play back the material or later, you can adjust the ISO and color temperature arbitrarily. There are various preset color spaces. Even if many parameters are changed in the early shooting, the later can be adjusted arbitrarily. This is a very powerful place for R3D files.
shortcut key setting
RED The most convenient function, you can store all the shortcut keys you have set to the card or even to the computer. The parameters of the camera are set on some small buttons, among them, there are two custom buttons on the handle.
Safely eject the card
Usually, when using other cameras, storing material is a very important step. When the camera is turned on, it is very risky to remove or insert the card. Relatively speaking, RED gave a very good solution. This is a small trick that is not written in the manual. There are two buttons on the camera, a power button, a record button on the side, and two very small buttons next to the record button.
When the two buttons are pressed at the same time, a row of numbers will be displayed on the screen after two seconds, and OK is displayed below, and the card can be hot-plugged in this state. This is called safe card eject. There is another way to determine whether the card has been successfully returned. After the card is withdrawn,If the card is successfully withdrawn, the remaining capacity will be displayed at the bottom of the screen to confirm that the card has been withdrawn.
Use pre-recording for unpredictable situations
As the name implies, it is to predict what happened before. Generally, shooting wild animals, such as the unpredictable bird's take off, is too late when the reaction comes.
RED camera can pre-record a pre-recording interval of 4-30 seconds. For example, if you set 10 seconds, the 10 seconds before pressing the record button will all be recorded to the card. The pre-recording function can also prevent the booting of the card from consuming the space of the card, and will not increase the amount of excessive material, which is the original creation of RED.
Different focusing methods
Normally, when focusing, there is a focuser beside the photographer, but the focuser and the photographer see the same picture. How to solve this problem. RED has a function called linear focus. All the focus areas on the screen are outlined with white lines. Where there is focus, there are lines. Where there is no focus, it is black. It can give the focus master or photographer 100% focus accuracy.
How to shoot without noise
Working in a shooting environment with a large temperature difference, you need to reset the black balance in order to prevent noise in the dark parts. Go to "Settings"> "Maintenance"> "Calibration"> "Sensor"> "Calibration Capture" in the camera menu.
From the drop-down menu, select the desired FPS/Exposure as the black balance type. The "default" setting uses the same 1/48 second exposure time as the factory calibration, while the "current" setting uses the current shutter speed setting. If the black balance calibration is performed mainly due to temperature changes, it is recommended to use the default settings. There are T and E values on the machine that indicate the black balance, but T and E need to be checked after the machine is turned on for a period of time. If the value shows green, it means there is no problem. Many people still use this camera during daytime filming during the day and night filming at night, so as long as it is preset, there will be no noise.
