Since I don’t have a cold for Wang Baoqiang’s crazy performances in the series, and I am a little worried about Nezha, who is wearing a cyberpunk coat, the first movie in this year’s Spring Festival file was given to the relatively unpopular "Assassination of Novelists" works. Let me talk about the conclusion: a very good film. Some people may think that the plot is weird and unreasonable, but as long as you accept the setting of "fiction will affect the real world", you will feel that everything makes sense. The special effects are good and the performance is in place. At least three and a half stars, I am even willing to give four stars.
In terms of the plot, I saw some film critics who said that the film actually combines two movies together, so it looks very rich in content. Please note that he is talking about "rich" rather than "lengthy". In fact, due to the excellent director's technique, the two films look completely different in appearance (after all, they are different worlds), but the parts with the same plot always keep a proper distance: they are independent and blended with each other. One more point will look the same and one less point will create a sense of division. Director Lu Yang is very good at grasping the measure, and some scene transitions in the film, especially the scene changes between the mountain city of Chongqing and another world (such as the fog on the river, the top of the tall buildings and the cliffs) are also very good points. The whole movie is 130 minutes long, and there is almost no so-called "pee point", but it is not too nervous to let people breathe, and the rhythm is good!
As for the actors, Lei Jiayin's performance is of course nothing to fault. He feels that he is basically "starring in his true colors", so the characterization is convincing. In the final battle of the big boss, he added some old stalkers who can smile at the end of his continuation of the novel, which makes this character alive and cute.
In contrast, although the performance of the other protagonists is not outstanding, they can be regarded as normal completion of the task. You can say that their performance is too facial and labeling, similar to Yang Mi's role "Tu Ling", the inner change is too blunt and so on. But from my personal point of view, since I did not have too high expectations for them, it is actually acceptable to reach the current level. Yes, I will not praise how outstanding these characters, including Yang Mi, are, but at least their performance will not become a "black spot" in the film.
as a visual effect/sound effect party,The performance of this film undoubtedly surprises me. In fact, the reason why I chose this film as the first movie for the Spring Festival this year is somewhat related to the special effects that were previously released in the trailer. I am very happy that "Assassination of the Novelist" is not the kind of film that puts all the wonderful special effects pictures in the trailer ahead of time. As I mentioned earlier, the film has been done in a good manner, whether it is character modeling, action design, or large scenes, and there are even quite a few parts that are quite brilliant.
Of course, the "set" taste of some of the scenes is indeed a bit heavier, but as a fantasy style movie, such a picture does not make people feel abrupt or acting. Part of it looks quite magnificent but has some dramatic scenes, which is actually OK to use in this style of movie. If you really want to pursue the so-called "reality and heavyness" of the historical drama in a certain fantasy film, it will make people feel that it is too shabby.
It can be confirmed that for a movie viewer like me who has always been unfamiliar with or even disgusted with such movies, "Assassination of Novelists" successfully eliminated some of my prejudices about domestic fantasy movies. This is definitely not a perfect movie, and it's a bit risky to put it on the Spring Festival stalls, but I really hope that my friends can go to the theater to watch this movie. I believe that after you watch this film, you will have new hope for Chinese fantasy movies like me.
