Volkswagen Golf comes with a front-row central airbag, which performs excellently in European NCAP safety tests
The eighth generation of Volkswagen Golf was launched in 2019 and received a five-star safety rating from European NCAP. While this rating is valid for up to three years, Volkswagen decided to upgrade the security of this popular hatchback , adding a central airbag that allows it to stand out in a more stringent new round of European NCAP testing.
The new golf now comes standard with a central airbag between the driver and front passengers to protect them in a side collision. This type of airbag is beginning to become more common in Hyundai car . Golf has an additional belt tensioner in the front row.
Although Golf had been tested three years ago, a total of 21 tests were conducted in the European NCAP security testing session, including 14 new tests. In the end, Volkswagen Golf scored 88%, 87%, 74%, and 79% in adult occupancy protection, child occupancy protection, vulnerable pedestrian protection and safety assistance, respectively.
Speaking of ADAS, in addition to the currently commonly equipped automatic emergency braking (AEB), other standard features of golf include driver alert warning and windward-facing vehicle braking during cornering. In addition, the Volkswagen Golf High-end Edition is also equipped with a wider and more complex ADAS package, including adaptive cruise control, lane assist, active blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert, etc.
Interestingly, Volkswagen did not apply security updates when the new models were launched, but instead added them to the current model. Judging from the above results, the 2024 golf should also receive a five-star rating.
