Ford Pro has launched the all-new E-Transit Custom, the all-electric version of Europe's best-selling van. Ford has designed from scratch to provide new levels of productivity for customers in the one-ton truck space. Ford applies its global power of research, engineering and software capabilities to E-Transit Custom, combining advanced electric vehicle technology with Ford Pro’s digital ecosystem of software and services to help businesses reduce their own cost, work more effectively and simplify the transition to electric vehicles.
Inspired by SME insights, E-Transit Custom provides innovative customer experience based on cloud connectivity and digital technology – all of which can be evolved through the updates of Ford Power-Up software over the vehicle’s life cycle.
Next-generation battery technology achieves a target range of 236 miles and a fast charging capacity of 125kW. E-Transit Custom will deliver excellent performance for a range of customer needs – all of which are supported by Ford Pro’s end-to-end solutions to manage and optimize charging.
To maximize productivity during workdays, E-Transit Custom provides new digital solutions for multipoint delivery and the use of cabs and luggage compartments. The cab is also a business center with 5G connectivity and flexible workspaces, including smart features such as the steering wheel, which can be folded into an ergonomic laptop and tablet stand.
Digital innovation is combined with uncompromising carrying capacity and capability. The E-Transit Custom offers up to 1,100 kg of payloads, lower load floors, easier access, with a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. Independent rear suspension and top-notch motor power help provide customers with a whole new level of driving experience.
E-Transit Custom's 400-volt, 74kWh available battery pack uses an advanced 82Ah bag battery shared with the Ford F-150 Lightning, with an energy density of 12% higher than E-Transit. According to Ford Pro customer data, the battery achieves a target range of up to 236 miles — four times the average daily mileage for truck drivers over 1 ton. The battery is mounted directly on the body to improve durability and reduce weight for optimal range.
Customers can choose from 100kW or 160kW (135PS or 217PS) motor power outputs to suit their needs, each providing top-notch 415Nm of torque. The drive motor is mounted directly on the rear floor of the vehicle without the need for a dedicated subframe and rotated 90 degrees to maximize load space and reduce weight and complexity. The powerful electric drivetrain provides a leading traction capability of up to 2,000 kg, which means the E-Transit Custom can replace diesel vehicles and become unmatched by other all- electric trucks . An optional retractable pull rod can be installed for additional convenience.
E-Transit Custom Owners will benefit from the customization feature of Ford Pro E-Telematics (free for one year), which uses real-time data to help operators monitor the vehicle’s location, efficiency and health to maximize productivity. The software also supports optimized charging strategies with EV-specific insights such as state of charge, state of charge and remaining mileage, and customizable Low Range alert thresholds. Owners can also program the E-Transit Custom’s battery and cab to heat or cool before using a predetermined pretreatment to save energy for optimal mileage.
E-Transit Custom is the first electric vehicle to heat and cool the cabin using steam jet heat pump technology, as standard on all vehicles. This new system is designed to provide higher energy efficiency for optimal mileage.
E-Transit Custom is equipped with an energy-saving braking system with single pedal drive capability. The system combines friction braking with regenerative braking to collect energy during deceleration to replenish the battery for additional mileage. In single-pedal driving mode, the driver can park without the brake pedal, which is preferred by drivers of the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E and can make city driving easier and more comfortable. Other available driving modes provide less slowdown to suit other driving scenarios.The system is designed to use friction brakes frequently enough to prevent brake disc from rusting or pitting.
E-Transit Custom's 11kW AC three-phase car charger can fully charge the battery within 7.8 hours, so customers can charge overnight after get off work. On busy days, they can use the FordPass Pro smartphone app to track their current charging status while on the go. E-Transit Custom also supports DC fast charging up to 125kW, which can charge 15-80% in 41 minutes. The new charging profile is preloaded with energy for a fast, useful top-up; in lab testing, the system provided nearly 24 miles of range in 5 minutes using a 125kW charger. Ford Pro customers have access to Europe’s largest Blue Oval charging network, which has over 300,000 chargers and is growing, and each E‑Transit Custom can get a 12-month free subscription through the Blue Oval charging network to access public charging.
More than 30 independent modules are able to receive remote Ford Power-Up updates. These can help improve vehicle performance, provide quality upgrades, update existing features and add entirely new features and capabilities. Most updates are completed in two minutes and can be scheduled to avoid downtime. The 8-year 100,000-mile warranty covers all high-pressure parts, giving direct buyers peace of mind and providing the best residual value for leaseholders and customers who exit the fleet before they have 8 years of ownership.
