Hello everyone! After Huineng preached the Dharma at Dafan Temple in Shaozhou, his influence became increasingly greater and more important. Practitioners from all over the world came to learn, and there were also disciples of Shenxiu . Master Shenxiu is a generation of high-ranking monks and a representative figure of the Jianwu School.
The Zen style at that time was really worthy of praise. Shen Xiu knew that Huineng's cultivation was higher than himself, and often warned his disciples: "If you want to improve your cultivation, you should go to Lingnan to learn from Huineng."
On this day, Huineng chatted with his disciples in the temple. A little novice monks came from Yuquan Temple in Dangyang. He was a disciple of Master Shenxiu. As the same sect and family, they are all the bloodlines of Master Hongren , so Huineng of course has to be treated as his own family.
The most important thing for those who come to learn is their mentality, so the master should test it carefully. For the contemptuous heart, correct the mistakes if there is something, and encourage them if there is nothing.
After the Gods’ simple salute, Master Huineng asked, "Heaven, how old are you this year?" God would happily answer: "I'm seventeen years old this year." The master
smiled and said, "Very good. You must have suffered a lot from Hubei so far. I won't treat you as a child just because you are young."
"Did you see your true self? If you have what you should have seen who is its master? Come and tell me."
God would smile proudly and said easily: "I thought there is no dwelling as the basis, and seeing is the Lord." These words blurted out with a silky tone.
Master also laughed after hearing this and said in a "sarcastic" tone: "Why are you, a little novice monk, speaking so casually? You parrot and plagiarize what others have said, it's really a waste of time!"
God will be very upset and retorted: "When the monk is practicing Zen, do you see it or not?" Huineng was a little surprised when he heard this, "Ho, are you going to the contrary?" The disciples watching the show next to
were having fun, something fun was about to happen. The master looked around as if he was looking for something, and suddenly he picked up a brush and knocked it on the forehead of God.
and asked seriously, "When I beat you, does it hurt or does it hurt?" God would be a little confused by the knock. He touched his head with his hand, which was obviously a little painful. He said stubbornly, "I don't hurt either." Master
felt unreasonable after hearing this, and smiled and said, "I don't see you." God would ask curiously, "What is seeing you?" Master
said, "I see you because I see you." My faults are my own mistakes. If I don’t see others’ right and wrong, good and evil, these are not my views. "
" And your pain doesn’t hurt, how do you say this? If you hit you, you don’t hurt, what’s the difference between you and a stone? If you hit you, you hurt, you are an ordinary person, you have a hatred heart",
"You are not awakened by your own nature, you are actually joking in front of me? Just kidding! Humph~". Shenxiu was pointed out and quickly knelt down and admitted his mistake and said, "Master, you beat right and scolded well, I will never dare to do it again." Master
continued, "You have not yet realized your nature, so you should ask more good teachers to seek a path to enlightenment, which is to study. If you have realized your mind, you will understand your mind and see your nature. After you understand your mind and see your nature, you should practice according to the method of seeing your nature."
"You are confused and confused, and you will ask me whether you see your nature or not? I see your nature, I know how to see your nature instead of you? I will break your confusion on your behalf?"
The little god will be speechless by the master's teachings, but it has benefited a lot. Master Huineng corrected the mentality of the divine association and gained another good seedling for promoting Buddhism. The conversation
is very interesting and informative. Perhaps Master Huineng means that when cultivating the mind and seeking the Tao, you cannot derive scriptures and follow the scriptures. If you recite Amitabha with your own mind, you must have your own things and do not imitate others.
When a car is invented, we don’t need to invent it again. Just buy it and drive it on the road; but everyone has to walk the path of seeking the truth with enlightenment.
Perhaps the so-called pain is not just a mentality, transcendental. What hurts is the body, and people need to experience and feel in the three-dimensional world; what doesn’t hurt is the nature, it remains unmoved and will not have emotions.
