Haideng Master "Two Finger Zen"
Hello everyone, I am Lantai.
Today is September 30, 2022. Here Lantai wishes everyone a happy National Day in advance.
In the 1980s, there was a martial arts mythical sea lantern master in China. At his most glorious time, he was the vice president of Sichuan and Henan Buddhist Association, honorary abbot of Shaolin Temple, and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
He published a collection of poems, written by Mr. Yang Chao, former secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and chairman of the Provincial CPPCC; opened a martial arts hall, and founding general Ulanfu wrote an inscription for the martial arts hall.
In terms of martial arts, his one-finger Zen, two-finger Zen, Boy's Trouble , and iron cloth shirt were widely reported by authoritative media in the 1980s; he once became the spokesperson of Chinese martial arts.
However, at the same time, the criticism about Haideng Master has never stopped; Shaolin Temple has always denied that Haideng Master has any relationship with Shaolin Temple; some reporters also wrote articles to disclose various problems in the " Haideng Myth", such as when Haideng Master performed the "Two Finger Zen" Kung Fu in 1979, the Haideng Master was actually hung up by his disciples with ropes, and Haideng Master boasted on his resume... This even triggered a ten-year reputation lawsuit between media reporters and the successor of Haideng Master.
But no matter what, with so many honors from the martial arts masters, Shaolin masters and the martial arts masters across the country, he is indeed the well-deserved first in the Chinese martial arts world in the 1980s.
Next, Lantai will combine information from all parties to introduce to you the life story of Master Haideng.
comic strips about the mage of Haideng
01,
Before his death, many media reporters accused the mage of deliberately falsely reporting his age in order to create a "martial arts myth", trying to create a situation where "the older you are, the more popular it is."
However, after court investigation and evidence collection, Master Haideng was indeed born in Chongqing Town, Jiangyou City, Sichuan Province in 1902 and died in 1989; he did not falsely report his age.
Haideng Master’s lay name is Fan Wubing . The reason why Master Haideng’s father gave him this name is because his mother died of illness when he was 4 years old, so his father, who was a tailor, named him Fan Wubing, hoping that he could grow up safely without illness and disaster.
Master Haideng started learning martial arts with his uncle when he was 6 years old.
1913, when Master Haideng was 11 years old, his father was beaten to death by a bully in the town. After
, the experience of the Haideng Master has become more vague. Many popular statements are derived from the self-reported statements of the Haideng Master.
However, according to the trial records of the successor of the Haideng Master and the reporter of the lawsuit against the reputation of the Haideng Master, many of the statements of the Haideng Master himself are very problematic.
For example, the Haideng Master said that he once won the "Bidding for both Boxing and Swords at the Zhejiang Sports Conference" and the "Back to the Shaolin Skills Banner in the East China Competition" in the 1930s.
At the same time, Master Haideng said that his mastery from Shaolin Temple's monk Rufeng was also falsified by Shaolin Temple.
In 2001, CCTV interviewed the 78-year-old Shi Suxi , the 30th generation abbot of Shaolin Temple at that time. Master Shi Suxi told CCTV that even if there is a monk like Rufeng, he cannot be a monk from Shaolin Temple; because Shaolin Temple is " Descendants Temple " (the so-called "Descendants Temple" is a monk from Shaolin Temple. The management team, including the abbot, must come from Shaolin Temple and do not accept monks from outside the temple).
All monks have strict ordering of the Dharma numbers, and the word Ru belongs to the 67th generation, but until 2001, the generation of Shaolin monks continued to the 34th generation.
If there is a monk Rufeng in Shaolin Temple, it should be 2300 years later.
In this way, Master Haideng seems to be another "Master Ma".
However, slow, things are not that simple.
Martial Arts Performance of Master Haideng
02,
First of all, Master Haideng is by no means a "fake monk". He did officially become a monk at Zhaojue Temple in Chengdu in 1937. After that, he did hold a post of hosting in many temples in Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
For example, there is a "spiritual bone tower" in Shigong Temple in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, where one-fifth of the bone colonization of the Haideng Master is here.
Why did Master Haideng have a "spiritual bone tower" in Shigong Temple?
is because he served as the presidency of Shigong Temple between 1957 and 1967. And according to the recollections of locals in Wu County, Master Haideng often practiced fist and foot skills alone during his tenure as the presidency of Shigong Temple.
1967, Master Haideng left Shigong Temple and returned to Chonghua Town, Jiangyou due to special years. And also opened a martial arts hall.
According to CCTV's 2001 documentary, many people in Chongqing Chongqing Town in Jiangyou have a good impression of Master Haideng. The reason is that Master Haideng is indeed very good at fist and foot skills, and he doesn't look like an old man in his 60s at all. Moreover, Master Haideng is also very good at dealing with people and treats people humbly.
At the same time, the martial arts hall opened by Master Haideng did attract a large number of young people from the local area to learn from their masters.
You should know that the original intention of CCTV shooting the documentary of Sea Lamp Master in 2001 was to break the "Sea Lamp Myth". Therefore, we can think that the Sea Lamp Master himself is indeed more powerful than ordinary people; otherwise it would not be possible to attract so many young people.
. Master Haideng was filmed in 1979. He was suspected of "falsification". Master Haideng's great apprentice, Zhou Chuanxin, who became a disciple in 1970, also frankly told the situation at that time:
Because his master (Haideng) was old and sick, he could not do Erzhi Zen at that time. Later, he adopted an auxiliary method - hanging his feet with a rope to spread the power.
And those who watched the performance of "Two Finger Zen" by Master Haideng in the 1960s said that the body was completely suspended in the "Two Finger Zen" represented by Master Haideng in 60 years and "Sichuan Fun Records", and supporting it with two fingers is different:
I have seen the performance of "Two Finger Zen" by Master Haideng in his own eyes. At that time, Haideng, who was in his prime, could only lie on his side and point his body to the ground with his two fingers. There is no difficulty in hanging the body of the second finger Zen in "Sichuan Qiqu Record". I was still very young at that time, and we learned to perform at sea lanterns. I didn't expect a friend of mine could do it.
03,
The "out of the circle" by Master Haideng is indeed due to the "Sichuan Fun Records" filmed by Sichuan TV that year, and the popularity of the movie "Shaolin Temple".
However, it was the media who really portrayed a monk who was in his 80s at the time into a "martial arts myth".
Haideng Master himself never said that he had a direct relationship with Shaolin Temple. He just said that his teacher was the Shaolin Temple monk Rufeng. As for whether Rufeng was a real Shaolin Temple monk, it had nothing to do with the seadeng.
Haideng just says that his fist and foot skills are derived from the Shaolin martial arts inheritance. Shaolin Temple has never denied this positively.
At the same time, the disciples around Master Haideng and the reporter who are close to Master Haideng also insisted that after the "Seadeng Myth" was destroyed, the "Seadeng Myth" had never been falsely promoted.
There is a cultural person who is familiar with sea lanterns and then summarized it incisively:
Sea lanterns are not gods, and they dare not admit that they are gods. He just boasted that he had research on Buddhism and martial arts, and had some skills. As for his false words such as "he punched a thousand pounds, jumped into the room, and ate anger to make a living, he himself never said to me. One of the motives of those who fabricate all kinds of lies and make the myths of sea lamps is to use sea lamps to gain fame, wealth and status. It just so happens that Haideng is very vain and is happy to agree. This has led to the intensification of the "myth" phenomenon.
Even media reporters who questioned the "myth" of the Sea Lamp Master from the very beginning also said that indeed the "Sea Lamp Myth" cannot be blamed entirely on the Sea Lamp Master.
A reporter said that he had written an article questioning Master Haideng, but he was requested to make a statement and was changed beyond recognition by the media:
"xx Daily" has an article "Master Haideng is not a Shaolin Abbot", which only in the last sentence, the editor tampered with my willingness and added a sentence, "Although Haideng is not a Shaolin Abbot, he is still the abbot of Shaolin." I asked them to make public corrections in the newspaper, but no corrections were made.
And the more exaggerated the martial arts of the Haideng Mage are spreading, the media should bear the main responsibility.
Take the time when the Master Haideng performs two-finger Zen every time as an example. When it was initially reported in 1983, it was just said that the Master Haideng can "touch the ground with two fingers, and hold up the dragonfly upside down, and hold it up for two minutes at once."
1-finger Zen
Results That year, some media wrote an article saying "full 5 minutes", and then it became "up to 10 minutes"; in the report in 1984, it became "up to 50 minutes without moving"; in 1986, it became "up to 57 minutes"; after Master Haideng's death, local media in Jiangyou, Sichuan directly increased this time to "one hour", indicating that Master Haideng once praised the second finger Zen for supporting the body in an hour in public.
From the initial "2 minutes" to the "60 minutes" after the death of Master Haideng, this is obviously not the problem of Master Haideng himself.
04,
0 Comprehensively with the various information about the Sea Dentist Master collected by Lantai during this period, Lantai believes that although the Sea Dentist Master has indeed beautified and exaggerated his experience to a certain extent, and the Sea Dentist Master himself is also very vain and has acquiesced to the "myth" of many people around him with ulterior motives, it does not mean that the Sea Dentist Master himself is a liar.
2001 CCTV documentary also confirmed that although Master Haideng became the real "first person in the martial arts world" in the 1980s, and even obtained the social status and social recognition that martial arts predecessors such as Yang Luchan , Sun Lutang , Li Shuwen, etc. (should serve as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), Master Haideng himself was still very frugal and maintained the behavior that a monk should have.
Haideng Master himself did not accumulate any property. Even the martial arts school " Haideng Martial Arts Hall " opened in his name, the property rights belong to Jiangyou City , and it is not a private institution; as of 2022, the "Haideng Martial Arts Hall" still recruits students in Jiangyou , and the students of the martial arts hall are also spread throughout three southwestern provinces .
And according to the interview, Master Haideng does have good skills in punching and kicking. Erzhi Zen itself is not a "deception of the world and stealing reputation". He did perform publicly many times after returning home in the 1960s.
It is even hard to say that the complete inverted handstand in "Sichuan Fun Records" in 1979 was the wish of the Master Haideng himself.
In the final analysis, the "martial arts myth" of Master Haideng is essentially a lack of entertainment in society after the reform and opening up, and the media that can provide entertainment to the society and even the public themselves do not realize or dare not admit that "entertainment" is also a normal need for justice and openness.
Whether it is the media or the general public, they often need to rely on entertainment to "high-end fun". For example, the Haideng Master must not only have superb and magical martial arts (entertainment needs), but also be able to punish evil and promote good, promote our country's power, fight against foreigners, and promote national qualities.
Haideng Master
even domestic media reported the deeds of Haideng Master and were full of entertainment (the second finger Zen time was getting longer and longer, and the marriage and love anecdotes of Haideng Master. The latter caused Haideng Master to be published in the newspaper many times to clarify that he had never fallen in love before becoming a monk), but he unconsciously portrayed Haideng Master into a traditional and tall heroic image.
On the contrary, Hong Kong media have been more entertaining when reporting on the deeds of Master Haideng. For example, although Hong Kong's "World Martial Arts" magazine criticized Master Haideng for "relying on his seniority" and "not in line with the real name", it did not say that Master Haideng is a liar or is not meant; the title of "The Visit of Master Haideng" written by Tong Xue in Hong Kong is "The Master of Martial Arts, Famous Monks in the Buddhist World, and Poetry Masters in the literary world".
In short, the sea lantern master is indeed worthy of the title of "the first person in the martial arts world in the 1980s", and the emergence of the "Sea lantern Myth", the sea lantern master himself is not so responsibilities. The appearance of
and even the appearance of Haideng Master has indeed promoted Chinese martial arts and traditional culture; at least Shaolin Temple is now so well-known, Haideng Master "makes indelible contributions".
