Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism
Huineng succeeded to the position of the Sixth Patriarch, but he was still a worldly person, so he was not immune to worldly troubles.
After receiving the dharma robes , the Sixth Patriarch traveled south late at night and hid in the mountains and forests for six years. On the surface, it seems that he is escaping from the battle of robes, but in fact, in Huineng's psychological world, the battle is more intense.

Picture of Hui Neng stepping on the pestle
Previously in Dongshan Zen Temple, Huineng was only a twenty-year-old man who had just entered the temple for more than eight months. He was an illiterate ordinary monk who was stepping on the pestle in a rice house. He also had the first divine title at that time.
After receiving the cassock, nothing changed.
Is the body of the Sixth Patriarch to maintain the true nature of Huineng and spread the Dharma through enlightenment? Or should he change his ways, practice calligraphy and literature, and live like a perfect patriarch in the eyes of the world?
Huineng struggled and thought about this for six years, and finally started the path of the Sixth Patriarch of Zen as Huineng. His wisdom, knowledge, courage and merit make him one of the three sages of the East.
The anxiety of people in the world does not originate from themselves, but from the world. If you care about worldly opinions and the views and opinions of others, you will get lost. Lose yourself and lose something truly precious.

The fifth ancestor of Zen, Hongren
The fifth ancestor passed on the clothes, and what he saw was not the illiterate Huineng in the world's eyes, the body of Huineng's southern scorpion. What he saw was Huineng's wisdom, his ability to suddenly understand the Dharma, and his courage to neither be humble nor arrogant, but to persevere and pursue his own goals.
suggested that Huineng should go south to avoid disputes. The tree wants to be quiet but the wind is not stopping. It is difficult to avoid being affected by the whirlpool. Stay away from right and wrong and find your true self. Escape from the disputes and be alone. All that needs to be extinguished is the inner battle. Only by finding yourself will you not be lost, and neither will the Dharma.
The true meaning cannot be understood without great wisdom.
