Whether it is music, drama, calligraphy, painting, or poetry, he is the first-class person. He is the founder of modern Chinese art and has also cultivated many artistic masters for China. However, when he reached his peak of fame, he chose to become a monk and became a generation of masters admired by the world.

Li Shutong was born in a wealthy family and was a huge businessman in Tianjin at that time, but his father died when he was 5 years old. In addition, he was a concubine's son in his family, and his identity was awkward, so he was sensitive by nature and taciturn since he was a child. However, his superior family and his brother sternly taught him , he was well-versed in poetry and songs, and he became a local "child prodigy" at a young age.

Because the person I like is an actor, he was bought by other big players and sent to the royal palace. A talented man gradually turned into a liar. In order to avoid her mother being punished, she followed her mother's order to marry Yu (daughter of a tea merchant in Tianjin). During the 100-day Restoration, he became enthusiastic and actively promoted , and once privately engraved a seal: "Nanhai Kangjun is my teacher." The shadow of impermanence in the world once again enveloped Li Shutong's sensitive heart. So Li Shutong followed Liu Yong , indulging in the teahouse and restaurants, escaping reality. In this fireworks and willow alley, in the past few years, I also have a deeper understanding of these actors and actors at the bottom.

25 years old, Li Shutong suffered another accident, and his 46-year-old mother also passed away. Li Shutong, who used to think that "her parents are here, don't travel far away", now has no concern, so he decided to travel to Fusang to study.
1906 Li Shutong was admitted to the highest institution of art education in Japan - Tokyo Art School Western Painting, becoming one of the first batch of Chinese art students. Here, he began his Western painting study that he had never been exposed to. Since Western painting focuses on realistic thinking, human body painting is a compulsory course, I found my landlord’s daughter Xuezi as a full-time nude painting model. Whenever the painting is completed, Li Shutong would ask the Japanese girl to give a comment. After a while, the two gradually fell in love and became husband and wife.

Due to his hard work and his extraordinary talent, Li Shutong has created many of the first in the history of Chinese art , and his most important contribution is drama. He hosted the founding of China's first drama club " Chunliu Society ". 1906, a flood occurred in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and all provinces along the river were seriously affected. After hearing this news, Chunliu Club prepared to organize a charity performance in Tokyo with the purpose of disaster relief and fundraising, and performed "The Girl of Camellia" in Tokyo. caused a sensation and took the first step in the practice of Chinese drama art. Their ticket sales income helped the flood and was admired by many patriotic young people.

1911 graduated from Japan and returned to China, and decided to bring his Japanese wife back. However, due to the many inconveniences at that time, he arranged Xuezi in Shanghai and returned to Tianjin himself. After returning to Tianjin, worked as a teacher at Zhili Higher Public School. But in this year, the Li family suddenly suffered a huge change and faced bankruptcy. Faced with this situation, Li Shutong left Tianjin and went to Shanghai on the eve of the Spring Festival in 1912.
In 1912, he served as the editor of the Pacific Daily and also taught literature and music at Chengdong Women's School. In October of the same year, the Pacific Daily ceased its publication and, at the invitation of an old friend, hired a music and painting teacher at Zhejiang two-level normal schools. In 1915, he served as the director of art in Nanjing Higher Normal University. In his teaching, he advocated sketching, offered outdoor sketching classes, and used nude models.
1918, Li Shutong, who came to Hangzhou six years later, suddenly converted to Buddhism at Hupao Temple in Hangzhou. Regarding the reasons for his becoming a monk, his student , Mr. Feng Zikai , once commented on his teacher like this:
The factor in his becoming a monk is the sublimation of his art. He said that there are three steps in life. The first step is food and clothing, which means food, drink, and living, which is very satisfied. If you continue, you must learn art and culture to achieve perfection in art. One more step in sublimation of art is thought and consciousness.

The Japanese wife in Shanghai rushed over after hearing the news. begged Li Shutong not to abandon him, but unfortunately, the decision to leave was made. Li Shutong's classmate Huang Yanpei once wrote in the article "I'll talk about Mr. Li Shutong too":
ship is on the way, and Shutong never looks back. But when he saw one oar and one oar swing towards the center of the lake, until the people and boats buried the depths of the lake clouds, he saw nothing. Shutong finally ignored him, and Shutong's wife returned crying.
From then on, there was one less artist Li Shutong in the Chinese art world, one less education master Li Shutong in the Chinese education world, and one more monk, Master Hongyi in the Buddhist world. He became the eleventh generation master of Nanshan Vinaya Sect.

Li Shutong Lifetime is full of legendary colors. He is a typical figure in China's extremely gorgeous and ordinary. It has left many spiritual wealth for the world. Mr. Zhao Puchu commented on the master's life as: " endless treasures for the world, a full moon shines on the heart of the sky ."
