Southern and Northern Dynasties During the Liu Song Dynasty, a monk Shi Sengliang, a monk from Changsha Temple in Jiangling (located in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, was strong and strong. He was famous for strictly observing the precepts when he was young. He was determined to be reborn in the Western Paradise, so he vowed to build a bronze statue of Amitabha (Amitabha) that was 1,6 feet high, so that more people could pay tribute and offer sacrifices to make the relationship between the Western Pure Land. But the project is huge and requires a lot of copper, so it has not been completed after many years.
Later he heard that Xiangzhou There were many bronze ware in Wuzixu Temple in Tongxi Mountain, Tongxi Mountain, so he wanted to go there to convince the ghosts and gods to agree and take the bronze ware back to cast the statue. Having made up his mind, he went to visit the state governor Zhang Shao , expressed his thoughts, and asked to lend him several large ships and one hundred heroes.
Zhang Shao said: "This temple is very effective, and people who violate it are often dead. Besides, with the protection of the native barbarians, I am afraid you will find it difficult to fulfill your wish."
Monk Liang said: "If you are blessed, I will share it with you. If there is a disaster, I will bear it alone!"
Zhang Shao saw that he had made up his mind, so he arranged people and ships for him. Before they set out, the temple god already knew that the wind and thunder were rippling, dark clouds rolled, and birds and beasts were roaring. Monk Liang was fearless and walked day and night, and soon arrived at his destination. At this time, the fog dissipated and the sun came out.
and their team got off the boat and came to a place less than twenty steps from the temple house. There were two huge copper pots on the side of the road, with a capacity of more than hundreds of hu (one hu: ten hu). I saw a big snake more than ten feet long jumping out of the pot, blocking its way. The more than a hundred people followed were so scared that they turned around and ran back.
Monk Liang is not anxious or panic. He sorts out monks' patriarch , walks a few times, holds tin staff in his hand, and whispers loudly to the snake, "You have been punished in this life because of your sins in your previous life. If you don't listen to the teachings of Three Treasures , how can you save yourself? I want to build a statue of Amitabha Buddha with six hundred feet high. I heard that there is too much copper here, so I came from afar. I hope you can understand, let the way open up and let me move forward!" The python raised his head and looked at Seng Liang, and then left invisibly.
Then Seng Liang personally led everyone into the temple and used a car to carry bronze ware. There was a spitting pot next to the head of the temple bed, with a gecko more than two feet long inside. It jumped out and crawled in again. The people who were talking said that God loved this thing the most, so they did not take the pot away. The bronze ware in the temple was heavy and large, and less than one-tenth of it was moved away, and the boat was filled and returned. No one who was guarding the temple at that time dared to stop it.
After Seng Liang returned, he began to cast Buddha statues, and it was completed in the ninth year of Jia, Song Dynasty (432 AD). The casting craftsmanship was exquisite, the Buddha statue was solemn and beautiful, and many supernatural things were passed down to the capital at that time after the worship. Emperor Wen of Song issued an edict to grandly welcome the Buddha statue back to Kyoto (now Nanjing). Because there was not a light on the head of the Buddha statue, Emperor Wen of Song issued an edict to use gold foil to create a round light on the head of the Buddha statue. I originally planned to enshrine the statue of Amitabha in Anle Temple, but later because there is an Amitabha pagoda in Pengcheng Temple, and Pengcheng Temple is located at the gate of the capital, it was finally enshrined in Pengcheng Temple. After Emperor Ming of Song ascended the throne, he left his residence where he lived and built a magnificent temple called Xianggong Temple. Emperor Ming invited the statue of Amitabha Buddha to be worshipped in the main hall of Xianggong Temple.
[Original text] The monk of Changsha Temple in Jiangling, Song Dynasty, has a strong ambition and a strong moral integrity. Always build the West and wish to create an infinite life statue of six hundred feet. It has huge functions and will not be able to do it over a long period of time. I heard that the Tongxi Mountain Temple in Xiangzhou was full of bronze ware, and wanted to transform ghosts and gods into full force. Then he went to the governor of the state Zhang Shao to report the source of the matter, and asked several boats and hundreds of heroes. Zhang said: This temple is effective, and those who violate it will die. And the barbarians protect it, and I am afraid that this will be difficult to achieve. Liang said: Share blessings with you, and die will lead you. Zhang immediately gave the boat to the man. Before the night has arrived, God has foresawed. The wind shakes the clouds and the birds and beasts whistle. The light comes, and the fog stops and the sun is bright. Before more than twenty steps to the temple house, there were two copper pots, which contained hundreds of hu of water. I saw a big snake more than ten feet long, freed from the pot, and broke the way. All the followers were dispersed.Liang then went in a dress and Zhenxi told the snake: Your sins in your previous life, so you have received the python body and did not hear the Three Jewels, so why should you extricate yourself! I made a statue of Amitabha, and heard that this copper was free, and came from afar. Fortunately, I can open the way and let me go. The snake raised its head and looked brighter, leading it away. Liang led his disciples to take bronze ware with him. Only the bedside saliva can accommodate four liters, and there is a zhang that is more than two feet long. It jumps in and out, so it cannot be taken. The temple is of great importance, and one is not accepted for ten. Only those who win the small will return when the boat is full. No one who guards the temple dares to refuse protection. Liang also casts statues, and completed their achievements in the ninth year of Jia, Song and Yuan dynasties. The gods are dignified and powerful. The statues are supernatural and their voices are spread to the capital. Emperor Wen of Song was welcomed to return to the capital. Because the flames were not prepared, I ordered the creation of thin gold and round light, and wanted to stay in Anle Temple. They all named the tower of Pengcheng, and were named the same as the original seal, and they were also located in the country's gate, and they were sent to the place where they were presented. At the beginning of Emperor Ming, he used his old residence as a temple and asked to move the statue, and was in the main hall of the Hunan Palace. (Volume 15 of "Fayuan Zhulin Annotation", page 517)
