Linji Sect is a branch of Zen Buddhism and is famous for its stick and fists to help others become enlightened. This violent method allows you to suddenly get rid of the current conscious bond, reaching the state of not thinking about good or evil, and transcending the binary opposition of . Zen Buddhism believes that the reason why practitioners cannot "see the nature" is because they are bound by various secular worlds and cannot invent their original mind. The practice of Linji Sect is similar to flashing lightning, which suddenly ignites the light of wisdom that sentient beings possess, and pulls you out of the dual thinking of the opposite of the subject and the object, so as to achieve the purpose of enlightenment and enlightenment.
The founder of Linji Sect is Zen Master Yixuan (? - in 867). He is from Caozhou Nan Chinese, his surname is Xing, and he had the ambition to be free from the world when he was a teenager. After becoming a monk and receiving the full precepts, he admired Zen Buddhism and became a disciple of Zen Master Huangbo Xiyun (?~850).
At that time, Zen Master Daoming of Muzhou (780-877) was the first person under Huangbo's sect. One day, Muzhou Daoming asked Zen Master Yixuan: "How long have you been practicing here?"
Yixuan answered: "It's been three years."
Muzhou asked: "Have you ever asked for advice from monks (referring to Huangbo)?"
Yixuan said: "I haven't asked for advice, I don't know what to ask for?"
Muzhou said: "Why not ask him what the general intention of Buddhism is?"
Yixuan then asked Zen Master Huangbo, what the general intention of Buddhism is? Before Yixuan could finish his question, Huang Bo fucked the wooden stick beside him and called him.
Yixuan saw the momentum, so he ran out.
Muzhou saw Yixuan running out, and asked him, "How is the situation?"
Yixuan said, "Before I finished my question, the monk picked up the wooden stick and called me. I really don't know what the monk means."
Muzhou said, "You go and ask again."
Yixuan so he asked the same question again, but was beaten by Huangbo stick again. Yixuan asked three times before and after, and was beaten three times. He felt very distressed, so he bid farewell to the first seat of Muzhou. Yixuan said, "I originally wanted to come to ask the monk for advice, but I was so awesome that I was too deep to understand the monk's profound intention. Now I have to leave here and go somewhere else to study."
Muzhou said, "If you want to leave, you should say goodbye to the monk first." Yixuan thought about it and felt that Muzhou was justified, and leaving without saying goodbye was rude after all. He agreed to say goodbye to Huangbo the next day.
Muzhou found Huangbo Zen Master in advance and said, "Although Yixuan is a young man, he has a deep wisdom. He will say goodbye tomorrow, so please help me guide you. He may become a towering tree in the future, covering the world."
Yixuan said goodbye to Huangbo on the second day.
Huangbo said: "You don't have to go to other places to study. Just go to Gao'an beach to worship Zen Master Dayu, and he will definitely help you."
Yixuan so he came to Gao'an tide and found Zen Master Dayu.
Dayu asked him, "Where did you come from?"
Yixuan said, "From the Zen Master Huangbo."
Yu said, "What did Huangbo teach you?"
Yixuan said, "I asked him three times about the general intention of Buddhism, but I was beaten three times. I don't know what mistakes I made?"
Dayu said, "Huangbo is really compassionate. In order to help you get out of your predicament, he instructed you to come to me to ask whether you have any or no mistakes."
Yixuan heard this and realized it immediately. But he said loudly, "It turns out that there are so few people who can understand Huangbo's Buddhism (the only one who understands it, but others don't). "
Dayu then pressed Yixuan and scolded loudly, "You, the bedwetting ghost boy, didn't you ask yourself that you were wrong or not, but now he says that Huangbo's Buddhism is not understood. Then what have you understood? Say it! Say it!"
Yixuan then punched Dayu three times to get rid of Dayu.
After Yixuan bid farewell to Zen Master Dayu, he came back to find Huangbo.Huangbo asked him, "When will you finish your journey back and forth?"
Yixuan said, "Because you are compassionate, you have to come back to find you."
Huangbo asked, "Where have you been?"
Yixuan said, "According to your will, you will go to visit Zen Master Dayu."
Bo said, "What did Dayu say to you?"
Yixuan repeated the conversation between him and Zen Master Dayu. Huangbo said, "This old guy Dayu is so talkative. When I meet me in the future, I will beat him up."
Yixuan said, "What do you say in the future? I will fight today, so that you can taste my fist."
Huangbo said, "You are in a bad mood."
Yixuan shouted at Huangbo. Huangbo immediately called the waiter: "Hurry up and fight this wind and get it to the Luohan Hall."
One day, Huangbo led the monks to the hillside to work. Yixuan followed the monks out of the slope. Huangbo turned around and saw Yixuan empty-handed and did not bring farm tools, so he asked him, "Why don't he bring slag (a kind of farm tool that digs soil)?"
Yixuan said, "Someone took my slag."
Huangbo said, "Come here, I will discuss something with you."
Yixuan then came forward, Huangbo raised the slag in his hand and said, "The whole world can't take this slag."
Yixuan reached out and took it over, and then asked Huangbo, "Why can I take it?"
Huangbo said, "I'm going out of the slope for me today." Then he went back to the temple.
Yixuan had to take Huangbo's sausage to loosen the soil for the crops. After working for two hours, when Huang Bo came back, Yixuan stood there and rested. Huangbo asked with concern: "You are tired!"
Yixuan said: "I haven't picked up this slag, where do I get tired?"
