Hello everyone! Bodhidharma As the twenty-eight ancestor of the Xitu Zen Buddhism and the first ancestor of the Middle Earth Zen Buddhism, he has a legendary life. He traveled thousands of miles to China to open up the Zen method, raising the Buddhist to a higher level. He was also the founder of Shaolin Kung Fu, allowing those who seek Taoism to practice both internal and external, not only to speak, but also to take action if necessary.
Bodhidharma is undoubtedly a great master. He gave birth to the Chinese's own Buddha - Sixth Patriarch Huineng, and his contribution was huge. Zen culture is an important part of traditional culture. Bodhidharma What important moments are there in your life? We want to have a simple chat!
1. When he was young, he was the third son of the King of Xiangzhi of the Southern Heavenly Kingdom. He was selected as the heir to the throne because of his predecessor. But one day while traveling in the suburbs, he entered an indescribable state - an old man with vernacular words came to pass on his message.
This person is actually the future Bodhidharma himself. He traveled over and guided him to the path of seeking Buddha, and from then on he became a connection with Buddha. It seems that many things are destined.
2. Bodhidharma wanted to worship Master Bodhidharra as his teacher, but he had to complete a test, which was to go out to build a solid meditation chamber with his bare hands (no royal resources could be used).
The process of building a house was unexpectedly unceasing. Bodhidharma suffered hardships, and he went from being tall, rich and handsome to becoming a loser, and finally finished it. But after a while, he raised the big wooden stick angrily and knocked down all the Jingxin ventricles.
Why is this? It turned out that he realized that true peace was only in his heart and could not be obtained outside. Because the external environment is impermanent, you cannot be attached to them. If you want to control the uncontrollable ones, you will definitely not be able to do it, and it will only cause pain.
and this is exactly the correct answer his master wants. Bodhidharma did the opposite and passed the test of becoming a disciple.
3. After Bodhidharma, who was in his 90s, traveled to China, he began to investigate and study the development and changes of Buddhism. He found that the general direction had deviated from the original intention of practice, and everyone was doing superficial skills and practicing with attachments.
These local practitioners can speak eloquently, but there is basically nothing inside of them. They are all playing theory, like an plastic flower , want to tell the fragrance of real flowers? They don't.
Bodhidharma corrected some special mistakes of his disciples, such as the most prominent one is meditation. The disciples thought that they could realize the truth by meditation, and sitting still is Zen. The longer you sit, the more advanced you are in cultivation. This is a distortion of the Buddhist meaning.
In order to vividly guide them, Bodhidharma kept rubbing with a bowl, saying that he wanted to grind the tiles into a mirror. The disciples said, "How can a mould tiles become a mirror?" Bodhidharma replied, "Well, how can a meditate become a Buddha?" Knowing the reason, but not knowing the reason, it is a waste of time.
4. When I entered the palace to see Emperor Wu of Liang , Emperor Wu of Liang asked, "I have done so many good deeds to promote Buddhism, copy scriptures, and offer to countless monks. What kind of merit do I have?"
Bodhidharma said directly: "There is no merit, it is like a shadow of accompanying you. It seems to have, but in fact it does not."
is still muttering in his heart: "But there are sins, and deliberately doing good deeds have encouraged people's laziness, deprived people of their strength, and wasted their lives. Most people are excellent only if they force them to force them, and eating for free will only make them rot."
Bodhidharma means - only those who have achieved enlightenment have merits. You are greedy for good reputation and deliberately do it.
5. Bodhidharma was about to cross the river to the north, but because he was a foreigner, he was "dirty in clothes", and perhaps he had body fragrance . He was scolded by the ship owner and refused to take the boat. He was not moved when he encountered injustice, and then he moaned and sat on the dock.
Suddenly he used a reed to cross the river and leaped on the water, his body as light as a swallow and as gentle as a dragon. A little girl who fell into the water was rescued with bare hands in the middle of the river. It turned out that she was the daughter of the boat family. Bodhidharma will not affect his own standards of doing things based on the impermanence of external circumstances.
6, Dharma crosses the river and rests in the woods and takes a break.A big bird injured by an arrow fell within his airspace. Bodhidharma caught the big bird with his hands, then healed it, recited mantras and eliminated his karma, and then released it into the mountains and forests.
Then the hunter came to find the prey. After Bodhidharma educated him, he gave him a poem to him to understand it himself.
Poem says: "The flesh and blood are delicious, and it is generally hard to express your pain and resentment. Put yourself in your shoes and think about it. Who can cut yourself with a knife?" In the eyes of Bodhidharma, life is life, and there is no distinction between high and low.
7. Sitting in the Wurufeng Cave of Shaolin Temple for nine days and nine nights, the divine light came over to ask for a visit, wanting to worship him as his teacher. After Bodhidharma came out of seclusion, he said to Shenguang: "You just want to worship me as your teacher. Don't you know how to reflect on yourself first?"
means that everyone is self-inflicted, and there must be dirty things in their hearts that have not been cleaned up, which is just not honest enough. If they are real enough, they don't need a teacher.
In a rage, the divine light cut off his left hand with a short knife to show his determination to seek Buddha. The matter of cutting off the arm and seeking the Dharma is also very strange to Bodhidharma, not a small scene. In more than 90 years of life, it can be considered a moderate scene.
He was moved by the determination of Shen Guang, agreed to accept him as his disciple, and gave the Dharma name " Huike ", laying the groundwork for the second ancestor of Zen Buddhism.
8. Because Bodhidharma has been in the back mountain of Shaolin Temple for a long time, believers from all over the world come to worship (the 28th generation descendant of the Buddha), and his existence has brought huge traffic and incense money to Shaolin Temple.
A group of bandits set their sights on Shaolin Temple, beating, smashing, and robbing, and being arrogant. Bodhidharma came forward to stop him and used force to make the bandits surrender, but they were still dissatisfied.
Dharma meditated on the spot, and received the shot rocket with his body and was burned to ashes. Looking at this scene, a living life disappeared in an instant, and the bandit leader was moved by it, letting go of money and turning his head to leave.
Suddenly, the sound of wooden fish came from the Great Hall, and there was a hint of majesty in the rhythm. A man with auspicious face slowly turned around. It turned out that Bodhidharma was resurrected in it with full blood.
Everyone possessed their bodies and worshipped them, and the bandit leader decided to put down his butcher knife and turn it back to the right. Of course, rebirth is just a legend, which means that noble sentiments will never disappear.
Use force to show off one's strength and ruthlessness to fight can only win the battle. Others are often convinced orally and dissatisfied. Revenge is just a matter of time, and a never-stop dispute.
Bharma uses the method of inaction to follow life and death, and successfully saves the bandit leader, which has profound meaning.
9. Time is like water, there will always be a day. Bodhidharma, who had gray hair on his temples, knew that he didn't live much, so he summoned his disciples to select one of them as his successor. In China, there have been only four disciples for decades, because he was too strict in accepting disciples.
Do you still remember Hui Ke handing over his arm as a "tuition fee"? This threshold is too high. Bodhidharma asked his disciples to speak in turn, telling them all about what they learned and realized. Whoever said the most was given the best gift to him and become the second ancestor of Zen Buddhism. Others will practice with the Second Patriarch in the future.
The first few disciples told Bodhidharma the essence of their lives, but he was not very satisfied. Only Hui Ke walked up to him slowly, with a humble attitude and kept saluting.
This is the answer that Bodhidharma wants. Those who know do not speak, and those who speak do not know. The truth cannot be said.
But his direct eye contact with Hui Ke was like a flash of lightning, which has already explained everything. The enlightened person's eyes, you understand me, and I understand you too.
Huike took over the mantle and became the second ancestor of Zen Buddhism. Bodhidharma left a message: "I was originally here to spread the Dharma to save my delusions. One flower bloomed five leaves, and the fruit was naturally formed."
10. Three months after Bodhidharma passed away, someone met him outside again. He tied a straw sandal on his Zen stick and walked westward. When Emperor Wu of Liang learned about it, he was shocked and ordered people to dig up the tomb. He saw that there was only a straw sandal (made into a tomb).
According to the transmission, after completing the Zen mission, Dafamo went west and walked into the Himalayas. Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth, and the depths of the mountains are the last destination of Bodhidharma.
Thank you for watching! See you next time ~ Thank you ~
