We talked with some great photographers about what makes the Sony CineAltaV 2 so special for cinematographers.

"Take Me" is a short film shot by director and cinematographer Gonzalo Amat (Gonzalo Amat). Today, we want to talk to these amazing DPs about their real-life experience of the Sony CineAltaV 2 and its stunningly expressive color science. Let's find out!
Q:
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Can you tell us some experience of working with Sony CineAltaV 2?
Cot Morgan: I'm very lucky. I got the use of a new movie machine from Sony in the early days, so I used it in an ongoing Titleist activity. It's really a bit scary to put a new movie machine on a big project, but it works very well. The next day, I decided to use it to take aerial photos. We integrated it with the Shotover F1 (perfect for) and flew over Los Angeles for a few hours. The weather this night is perfect for shooting. The fog rolling in is very low and thick, and the light is very good. As soon as I got off the ground I knew it would be a good shot. After a few hours of flight, I concluded that this will be the movie machine I will use for many years to come.
Gonzalo Ammat: Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity, I want to do something different from what people try out new movie machines, so I made a small short film and I wanted to see what the movie machines can do with existing light. So instead of using movie lighting, it's filmed in different environments in the city, indoors, outdoors, day, nights, magical moments, you know, just to see what the movie function can do. After using it, it gave me a really good feeling. I really think this is a big improvement to CineAltaV, and these guys really listen to what we filmmakers want.
Q: What initially attracted you to Sony CineAltaV 2?
Curt Morgan: Well, I have been the first generation of CineAltaV users since the beginning and have been very impressed by it, but there is still room for improvement. Sony really listened to the user community and launched a new movie machine with better dynamic range, higher resolution and data rates, smaller size (when the RAW backplane is removed) and lower light sensitivity.
Q: What are the performances in movie camera ?
Amat: Well, I think the most important thing is the sensor. The size of a movie machine can be very small, but if the sensor is not good, it makes no sense. So for me it should have good color rendering ability and it has to satisfy a certain resolution (that's what I've given priority). And it must have an easy-to-use menu and not be too complicated to operate.
Q: What do you think of the color science and dynamic range of cameras?
Cott Morgan: I have tested RAW material on my computer, which is amazing. Its color depth is incredible, with almost no noise, and its skin tone is very accurate. As for DR, it's super wide, you can push and pull endlessly while retaining shadows and highlight details, which makes me excited to go out and shoot more material.
Amat: I think this movie machine does a great job in dynamic range and color science, and the dynamic range is also very good. I shoot under very difficult conditions, like under the bridge in Manhattan , the sunlight on the skyline shines directly on the building across the river, or in the water. I think the movie machine can capture everything, the RAW file looks incredible, and the details of the highlights and shadows are handled well. So for me, it's very crucial because this is something I'm looking for in a movie machine. I don't like overexposed highlights, so this sensor is amazing.
Speaking of color science, I want to say that I was very surprised by its color performance because I do think that sometimes certain colors don't perform very well on digital media. And it does very well, especially in the performance of the skin. You should know that even if you shoot under color lighting, it still has the texture of the cinematic color and will not be oversaturated to a certain extent.
Q: Will you recommend CineAltaV 2 to other photographers by ? (if yes, why?)
Amat: Yes, I will definitely. In terms of color, size, filters, and movie quality, this is probably the first high resolution movie machine I have ever used, with the details performed particularly well.
So I think the picture quality of this movie machine is very good and the feel is very good. I think this is what the first Venetian movie machine lacks. It is more distinctive and feels more like an old-fashioned film camera because of the softer color and skin tone.
is also a little smaller than before. It is a very good movie machine. I would recommend this movie machine as an excellent choice for shooting in natural light. This is my goal, to prove that the ability of a movie machine should be shown without the light being able to be displayed. Then, when equipped with lights, you get a better picture.
