Tracey Moffatt was born in Brisbane, Queensland in 1960. Moffat is a photography narrative director, highly regarded for his form and style experiments in film, photography and video, and is known for telling "the man who tells the "drama story" and calls himself an "image maker." Her work is inspired by the history of art and photography, as well as her own childhood memories and fantasies, exploring issues of race, gender, sex and identity.
Since her first solo exhibition was held at the Australian Photography Centre in Sydney in 1989, Moffat has exhibited her works extensively in museums around the world. Since 1995, her works have been widely exhibited in solo exhibitions and international art events in Europe, the United States and Oceania . In 2017, she represented Australia in the 57th Venice Biennale . The works are collected by Tate Gallery , Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Australia, South Australia Gallery and New South Wales Gallery. She currently lives in Sydney and New York.
Trecy Moffat is probably the most successful artist ever in Australia, both domestically and internationally. She is undoubtedly one of the few Australian artists to establish a global market for her work.
