Pumpkins are a must-plant for mothers every year. Every early spring, my mother always nags: "Growing melons makes melons, and planting beans makes melons." At that time, the family had a large population and had a difficult life, so pumpkin became a common occurrence at home. My mother is skillful and makes pumpkin rice with a rich flavor. The pumpkin bun and pumpkin flower dumpling soup made by my mother has a unique flavor. My mother peeled the selected pumpkin with a knife, removed the seeds of pulp, cut it into thin strips, put the fine salt on it, squeezed it dry with white sand cloth, add shrimp skin and chopped green onion, and mix it into a filling. Then rolled corn bread , which is the pumpkin filling corn bun. It tastes bright and refreshing, and it brings saliva to your mouth. My mother also used pumpkin flower to cook soup. First, cut the pumpkin into pieces, then put pumpkin flowers on it, and stew the soup with chopped green onion and seasonings. Then, scald the corn flour with boiling water, stir in one direction, and add some fine salt, so that the dough can be tougher and eat better. When the pumpkin is almost boiled, put the corn balls in water with a spoon, wait until the dough floats up, add the soup and stew until 90%, then remove the internal stamens of the collected pumpkin flowers, wash them clean, tear the petals into a surface, and put them into the soup piece after the soup is stewed, and the fragrance of flowers is overflowing. A plate of pumpkin-filled corn buns are smooth and sweet; a bowl of pumpkin flower soup is simple and delicious.
Later, my family became richer, so my mother started making meat-filled flour, pumpkin buns and dumpling soup .
After my parents passed away, the old house moved. In the garden of our new courtyard, we also planted pumpkins like our mother in the harvest season. As the harvest season, we also made pumpkin buns and pumpkin flower dumpling soup like our mother back then, savoring the taste of the past years. Time flies and family affection is unforgettable.
