說起「英國」到底該用哪個單詞？England還是UK？

說到英國，你腦子裡第一個出現的英文單詞是什麼？England？The United Kingdom (UK)？還是The Great Britain？

當我們用England指代英國時，其實代表的是英格蘭，要知道英國可不是只有英格蘭（England）哦，除了它還有蘇格蘭（Scotland）、威爾士（Wales）以及北愛爾蘭（Northern Ireland），這四個不同的地方共同構成了聯合王國（The United Kingdom）。

那The Great Britain又是指什麼呢？

它的中文全稱是「大不列顛島」，隸屬於不列顛群島（The British Isles），島上有英格蘭（England）、蘇格蘭（Scotland）和威爾士（Wales）這三個地方，北愛爾蘭（Northern Ireland）則位於不列顛群島上的愛爾蘭島（Ireland）。

在看到女王訪問英聯邦時，Hi姐就曾經產生過疑問，英聯邦（The Commonwealth of Nations）到底是個啥？和英國有什麼關係呢？

我們先來看commonwealth /ˈkɑːmənwelθ/這個詞，其實單用the Commonwealth就已經有「英聯邦」的含義了，但大家還是要考慮語境決定是否要說完整哦~

英文維基百科這樣說：

The Commonwealth of Nations, simply referred to as the Commonwealth, is a political association of 54 member states, almost all of which are former territories of the British Empire. The chief institutions of the organisation are the Commonwealth Secretariat, which focuses on intergovernmental aspects, and the Commonwealth Foundation, which focuses on non-governmental relations amongst member states.

The head of the Commonwealth is currently Queen Elizabeth II; the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting appointed Charles, Prince of Wales, to be her designated successor, although the position is not hereditary. Elizabeth II is the head of state of 15 member states, known as the Commonwealth realms, while 34 other members are republics and 5 others have different monarchs.

英聯邦，簡稱the Commonwealth，是一個由 54 個成員國組成的政治聯盟，幾乎所有成員國都是大英帝國的前領土。該組織的主要機構是專註於政府間事務的英聯邦秘書處和專註於成員國之間非政府關係的英聯邦基金會。

英聯邦元首現任英國女王伊麗莎白二世；2018 年英聯邦政府首腦會議任命威爾士親王查爾斯為她的指定繼任者，儘管該職位並不是世襲的。伊麗莎白二世是 15 個成員國的國家元首，被稱為英聯邦國家，而其他 34 個成員是共和國，另外 5 個成員有不同的君主。
