In 2009, a feasibility study on the industrial manufacturing and market application of methanol vehicles and was launched to study and determine the organization and implementation of a methanol vehicle pilot work plan; in 2012, the government level determined Methanol vehicle pilot work has been organized and carried out in different regions and different vehicle models; in 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Science and Technology completed a comprehensive acceptance summary of the methanol vehicle pilot work in 10 cities in five provinces and cities, thus forming a consensus on the development and promotion of methanol vehicles in my country. In 2019, eight ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly issued a document to formally organize the promotion and application of methanol vehicles. The document also specifically proposes to "encourage and support enterprises to develop methanol hybrid vehicles, methanol extended-range electric vehicles, and methanol fuel cell automotive products. Accelerate the transformation and industrial application of methanol vehicle scientific research results." It points out the direction for the manufacturing industry and application market. Due to the work tasks and goals,

organized experts, scholars and front-line engineering and technical personnel to write and publish hundreds of professional articles through different channels and occasions; organized several "forums" and "exchange meetings" and released hundreds of shareable special exchange speech reports; opened "Methanol Economy and Industry Lecture Hall" with 100 class hours and "series of special topics" Lecture"; systematically introduces the technical system and application examples of methanol new energy application projects such as methanol economy, methanol economic industry, renewable methanol fuel preparation, methanol vehicles, ship power methanol fuel applications, methanol fuel generator sets, methanol fuel range extenders, methanol fuel power combustion, methanol fuel cells, methanol fuel online hydrogen production, methanol fuel thermal combustion, methanol fuel catalytic heating and other methanol new energy application projects.

has written more, appealed more, and conveyed more, but it has not been widely disseminated, recognized, and even accepted. I have been asked many times at work: methanol fuel , in the path to achieve the "double carbon" development goal, from an energy perspective, such an excellent new energy has both a theoretical and scientific basis, as well as production capacity scale, and even application examples. He has done a lot of basic research, experimental verification and applied research work on system engineering for a long time. In particular, methanol vehicles have successfully completed the pilot work organized by the government's industrial authorities and passed the actual operation test for a long time, multiple models, long distances, and across regions.

Even today, why are methanol vehicles and methanol fuel applications still in such an awkward position? Why are the industries still waiting and watching? Why is the financial system indifferent? Why is the market response so indifferent? There are many topics about achieving the "double carbon" goal, effective energy paths, why is the promotion and application of renewable energy methanol so indifferent?

Most of the people who raised these questions come from multiple perspectives, industries, fields, and levels of industry, as well as leaders and experts from academia and industry. Answering these questions requires serious investigation and research. Although the conclusion is a bit embarrassing and the writing is a bit bitter, I feel it is more appropriate to write it down to avoid causing mistakes and misleading people. Of course, I also want to take some responsibility (this is the author's opinion).

China’s methanol vehicles are currently in a leading position in the world from technology system, product manufacturing to market promotion and application. However, China's automobile manufacturing industry has not formed an industrial sector and scale, and there is no consensus on market promotion and application. The reasons are:

First, there is no understanding of methanol fuel. Because I simply don’t know that methanol can be used as a fuel for internal combustion engines . I don’t know that methanol is the best carrier of hydrogen for hydrogen fuel cells. I don’t know that methanol fuel can achieve both power combustion and thermal combustion. Since we don’t understand or know, how can we talk about applied research? This is one of them.

Second, there are no subsidies for methanol vehicles. The subsidy policy for electric vehicles superimposed by national and local finances represents the will of the country and also expresses the direction of support.Since the state does not provide subsidies for methanol vehicles, why do companies need to waste manpower, financial resources and energy to make a product that has no direct benefits (subsidies)? At an industry conference this year, the chairman of an automobile company put forward the argument that "80% of China's fuel vehicle brands will be 'shut down and replaced' in 3-5 years." If you use this argument to lead an automobile company, the result will inevitably be to abandon fuel vehicles. If fuel vehicles have been abandoned, what is the use of internal combustion engines? Let’s talk about methanol cars, this is the second one.

The third is to wait and see. knows the low-carbon and clean characteristics of methanol fuel, knows the renewable characteristics of methanol fuel, knows that methanol is the best carrier of hydrogen, and also knows that the application of methanol fuel can achieve interoperability with traditional energy vehicles. Its superiority is beyond doubt. However, under the general direction of advocating the realization of "dual carbon" development goals, the government has high-profile development of the hydrogen energy industry. Subsequently, ammonia has entered the industry's perspective due to its zero-carbon characteristics. Will there be any fuel vehicles in the future? What will be the mainstream energy in the future? Before these issues are clarified, it is safest to wait and see (but for an industry, it is precisely the most terrifying thing. In today's rapid development of science and technology, waiting and waiting means death - the author's opinion).

The reality is that the above three reasons have led to two inertial thinking. One is aiming at subsidies. Whatever the state subsidizes, it will be done until the subsidies are gone (this is an inertial thinking that companies will directly benefit from after the state implements financial subsidies for electric vehicles). One is Currently, gasoline and diesel fuels are still the main fuels. We will wait until 3-5 years from now when 80% of Chinese fuel vehicle brands will be "shut down and transferred" and gasoline and diesel will be delisted. As long as gasoline and diesel are still usable, continue to wait and see (this is another inertial mindset that clings to survival).

Of course, the most basic principle for any business is to make profits. Nowadays, electric vehicles are subsidized and enjoy some policy support that exempts them from restrictions. Although the "window period" for the electric vehicle industry to independently maintain growth and profitability has not been as expected, to this day, the "media" and "experts" tell us that it is still "booming". This has created a group of companies that don't be impatient, just wait and see, as long as they keep up and don't fall behind, they will make progress. This is the reality.

In fact, in today's automobile industry, when we face the largest industry scale and the largest sales market, we should ask ourselves, do we still have the technology and product reserves? What is our accumulation? Do we have coping mechanisms? Is our sustainable development direction clear?

The author believes that the development path of Geely Automobile can be used for reference. First, continue to make good fuel vehicles. Tapping potential, innovating and optimizing combinations in internal combustion engines. Second, scientifically develop electric vehicles. Release the advantages of the full range of hybrid (gasoline and alcohol-electric). Third, will not waver in the development of methanol new energy vehicles. Persist in exploring new energy applications of methanol, and on the basis of realizing the commercial application of methanol internal combustion power, alcohol-electric power, and methanol extended-range power, carry out innovative research and development and product reserves of methanol online hydrogen production-hydrogen fuel power and methanol fuel cell technologies and products.

The argument that "80% of Chinese fuel vehicle brands will be 'shut down and replaced' in 3-5 years" is not in line with China's national conditions and the development pattern of the automobile industry. It is neither advisable nor impossible.

Academician Zhang Tao, deputy president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, called at the Zhangjiakou Renewable Energy Summit: "Tear down the 'walls' in the energy system, let all energy types integrate organically, and jointly shoulder the important task of lifting and reducing carbon emissions." Academician Zhang Tao’s core idea of “tearing down the wall”, I believe, is integration. Without integration and tolerance, society cannot progress. The process of integration is actually a process of mutual progress, “taking the strengths of others and making up for one’s own shortcomings.” This is what integration is about. This is the concept behind the “global village”!
