TSMC is invincible in the chip foundry market because it masters the world's most advanced manufacturing technology and has the world's largest chip production capacity . However, it has to be said that TSMC has completely "changed" now.
The reason why it is said that it has completely "changed its flavor" is because TSMC has actually "changed its flavor" a long time ago. At that time, Zhang Rujing, the founder of SMIC , Zhang Rujing saw the country's backwardness in chip manufacturing and decided to Ran decisively resigned from Texas Instruments in the United States, and first founded the top ten semiconductor in Taiwan to gain experience. He was soon targeted by TSMC, and was eventually acquired by TSMC. However, Zhang Rujing proposed that the acquisition was okay, but in the future he would set up a factory in mainland China. TSMC did not raise any objection, but it has been delaying the implementation.
Zhang Rujing had seen through TSMC's thoughts, so he resigned from TSMC again and founded SMIC in Shanghai in 2000. In just four years, SMIC reached the third position in the world. However, at this time, TSMC seemed to feel the threat and wielded a big stick to suppress SMIC. It sued SMIC in the United States, believing that SMIC had infringed its rights, and eventually forced Zhang Rujing to leave SMIC.
But now TSMC has generously established an advanced technology chip factory in the United States. The original plan was for 5 nanometers, but now it has been upgraded to 4 nanometers. It is also building a 3 nanometer factory. It does not hesitate to charter flights to ship a large amount of equipment to the United States, as well as thousands of senior technical personnel. Now, the president of TSMC has once again admitted that it will use charter flights to send 500 to 600 TSMC employees to Japan.
I believe everyone knows that for chip manufacturing, the most important thing is technology, and behind technology is talent. TSMC is also well aware of this. For example, TSMC President Wei Zhejia personally said in an interview: Talent is the key to progress in an industry, and money cannot buy talent.
Yes, money cannot buy talents, but TSMC has directly sent talents there. Not only that, it has also trained a large number of talents for others. According to media reports, TSMC’s factories in the United States and Japan will provide training for American and Japanese employees for at least half a year. In addition, benefits such as career advancement are better than those of TSMC’s own employees.
So don’t you even cover it up? Although we clearly know the importance of talents, we still do this. Previously, the central media reported that we must give up all illusions, insist on independent research and development on core technologies, and master independent intellectual property rights and core technologies. Now it seems that this is indeed the case.
Therefore, no matter how difficult it is, we must develop our own lithography machine, our own chip architecture, our own chip design tool EDA, and our own chip manufacturing technology. Recently, we have also officially released our own "native small chip technology standard." Looking at it now, we have made gratifying achievements relying on our own hard work. For example,
uses small chip technology, combined with the advanced packaging that we are good at, to produce chips that are lower in cost but comparable in performance to advanced processes. This is a brand-new technology that uses a heterogeneous architecture.
What TSMC is good at is isomorphic architecture, which has begun to experience huge bottlenecks. Recently, TSMC publicly stated that the density of its 3nm SRAM is only about 5% higher than that of 5nm. In other words, the performance improvement is very limited.
So we see that even the American chip giant AMD adopts heterogeneous chips, and finally leaves them to our Chinese companies to complete the final back-end manufacturing, and directly sign a 5-year long-term contract. Therefore, it is almost foreseeable that TSMC will continue to send away talents and cultivate talents for others, and will eventually ruin itself. And we will go uphill and finally achieve our own glory, we will wait and see.
