[CNMO News] After entering the 5G era, enterprises have been constantly exploring new technologies. On December 20, CNMO learned from officials that Sony and KDDI successfully conducted a technology demonstration, demonstrating parallel communication using multiple network slices based on a single device in 5G independent networking (hereinafter referred to as "5G SA").

Sony

official introduction, since January 2021, Sony and KDDI have been evaluating related technologies to create new entertainment services and commercial use cases based on 5G SA, including this demonstration. Then on February 28, 2022, Sony and KDDI successfully used network slicing technology in combination with 5G SA in a technical demonstration of a game streaming service, proving that users can play PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 games on their smartphones even if they are not at home.

Specifically, this demonstration confirmed that using network slices of video signals and control signals with different attributes can achieve smoother gaming effects. It is worth mentioning that this is the world's first demonstration of using multiple network slices for a single application.

It is understood that in this demonstration, Sony and KDDI used the 5G core network on the Xperia smartphone, which is compatible with the URSP (User Equipment Routing Selection Policy) standardized in 3GPP. It demonstrates that a gaming application can simultaneously use multiple network slices of image data and control data with different properties.
