has arrived at the node for operators to announce their "monthly exam results" and mobile, Telecom , and China Unicom successively released key operation data for October yesterday. There are about 1.033 billion customers using the 5G package.
Among them, the cumulative number of mobile 5G package customers reached 571.52 million, and the number of telecom 5G package users reached 256.92 million. In October, China Unicom added 4.169 million 5G package users to 205 million.
Operator: 5G package increments do not increase revenue
In theory, with the significant increase in the number of users of 5G packages, under the premise that the price of 5G packages is not low, if the 5G packages sell well, operators can make more money. But is this really the case?
That's really not. Without the "price war" in the 4G era, people obviously have little interest in 5G, and the main reason is that "4G is sufficient and 5G phenomenon-level applications have not yet been born."
Most users of 5G packages are upgraded from the original 4G package when the package price remains unchanged. In the first half of this year, China Mobile's average revenue per user was 52.3 yuan, Telecom's ARPU was 46 yuan, and China Unicom's 44.4 yuan.
Compared with the average monthly user income of 73 yuan in mobile in 2010, the current communication fee price has indeed been reduced a lot.
As Liu Liehong, chairman of China Unicom, said before, "Chinese operators provide cost-effective services, and the average tariff is half of foreign tariffs. While traffic explodes, traffic revenue only increased by 0.7%. "
"Co-built 5G to save sources and increase revenue"
From the perspective of the "monthly test" keyword 5G package users of the three major operators, the penetration rate of 5G package has been further improved. As of the end of October, the total number of mobile phone users of the three major operators reached 1.682 billion. If calculated based on this data, the penetration rate of 5G package users was about 61.4%.
However, the operation of the communications industry from January to October released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that 524 million 5G mobile phone users have reached 524 million, which means that among the more than 1 billion 5G package users, almost half of the users are still using 4G and below networks, and only half of the users who really use 5G networks .
Compared with 4G, which was born in 10 years, the coverage depth and breadth of 5G are far less than 4G. At the end of last year, the total number of 4G base stations reached 5.902 million. After nearly a year of catching up, 5G base station has a net increase of 825,000 compared with the end of last year, reaching 2.25 million in total, accounting for 20.9% of the total number of mobile base stations. The scale of
5G base station determines to a certain extent our experience of using 5G networks to surf the Internet. Compared with 4G that is online at any time and "enough", the current 5G is indeed not very popular.
plus the high cost expenditure of building 5G base stations, the construction cost of a 5G base station is about 300,000 to 500,000 yuan. At the same time, the coverage of high-frequency 5G base stations has been further reduced. In order to save costs, operators have started a co-construction and sharing model in the 5G era, combining it with two pairs, and four operators share two 5G networks.
Mobile joins hands with the newly entered Radio and Television to jointly build 700MHz 5G. Radio and Television uses mobile 2G/4G/5G network for a fee, while with the help of high-quality low-frequency 700MHz 5G of Radio and Television, it is easier for mobile to achieve rural and remote areas of the 5G network.
China Unicom and China Telecom signed a 5G network co-construction and sharing agreement in 2019 and simultaneously promoted 4G access network sharing. As of the end of October, a total of 980,000 5G shared base stations and 1.07 million 4G shared base stations have been opened, saving 240 billion yuan. Among them, carbon emissions are reduced by more than 10 million tons each year and power savings are over 17.5 billion kWh.
Why don’t operators do it for saving money and improving users’ network experience?
is different from the "prosperity" for the government and enterprise markets. The revenue of fixed voice and mobile voice services of the three major operators was 17.24 billion yuan and 95.89 billion yuan respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 9.1% and 1.4%, and the revenue of mobile data traffic services was 538.3 billion yuan, a slight increase of 0.7%.
For operators, although the personal mobile business market still accounts for the "big" of revenue, compared with the significant growth of more than 100% of the operator's cloud market, the government and enterprise market is obviously more "money".
The growth of 5G package users has not strictly brought corresponding revenue increase to operators. As for the price of 5G package fees, after all, the package fee standards and discounts in different places are different, and the prices of our 5G packages will also vary. Do you think the price of 5G packages is appropriate?
