Starting from 2021, China Mobile and State Grid Zhejiang Power have begun to cooperate in the construction of 5G+ smart power. Over the past year of exploration and practice, Zhejiang has built the largest 5G+ smart power application scenario in the country - based on China Mobile's 5G power dedicated network combined with soft and hard slicing innovative applications. The 5G smart power dedicated network covers 11 prefectures and cities across the province, has more than 1,300 hard slicing base stations, more than 5,000 power terminals, and has launched smart power applications for 14 services. This 5G smart power dedicated network can realize the batch and secure access of in seconds that can interrupt the load terminal, can be remotely controlled and unmanned inspection, save 1.3 billion yuan in electricity investment costs and reduce carbon emissions by 13.4 million tons.

In the newly renovated 5G+ smart power plant -located in Datang Wushashan Power Plant in Xiangshan, Ningbo, three huge bucket turbines were parked on the track and making a buzzing sound. Power inspection is the biggest pain point in the power transmission process. With the arrival of 5G smart power, the days when staff climb high towers and run power stations are getting farther and farther away.

As the drone slowly rises and flies to the inspection point, the details of insulators , ground wires and other details on the pole tower are carefully captured by the 4K high-definition camera, and are returned to the smart operation inspection and control application group in real time through the 5G network. Once a safety hazard is identified, the problem point information and relevant instructions will be transmitted to the flight management platform to trigger the automatic handling mechanism of the drone to eliminate the hidden dangers as soon as possible.

This is the 5G+ drone independent inspection application jointly developed by China Mobile and State Grid Zhejiang Power. Both parties have built the first "5G networked drone" independent inspection demonstration base in Hangzhou Bay New District, realizing the autonomous inspection operations of drones of 473.6 kilometers of lines and 760-base towers in the area.
