In the past few decades, American companies have been the dominant players in the communications field, but all this has changed since entering the 5G era. The status of US companies has been shaken. Chinese technology company Huawei emerged and has become the leader of the 5G market by relying on its core patented technology of 3,000+.
Because of this, the United States has used Huawei's chip shortcoming to cut off supply for three years. To be honest, chips are one of the biggest shortcomings of China's technology industry. Before Huawei was suppressed, Chinese technology companies still believed in the fallacy of "it's better to buy than to make". Until Huawei was "bottled" and the lies were completely broken, and the only way to independent research and development was left in front of Chinese technology companies.
Academician Ni Guangnan also issued a warning to Chinese technology companies that core technology cannot be obtained! Can't buy it! Even worse, I won’t come! Only by insisting on independent research and development and taking core technologies into your own hands can you avoid being "bottled" . Chinese technology companies that felt the crisis were completely awakened and embarked on the road of self-developed chips, and "de-beautification" was also put on the agenda.
After two or three years of hard work, domestic chips have also delivered good results. According to statistics from January to September 2022, the domestic chip production reached 190 billion, and more importantly, the domestic chip import volume dropped sharply by 60 billion. There is no doubt that as the domestic production rate increases, the import rate is decreasing. Once China's chips achieve self-sufficiency, Chinese companies' dependence on US chips will become lower and lower, and US companies will suffer huge losses.
It is obvious that many American chip companies can no longer withstand it. Companies including Qualcomm , AMD, Panlin Semiconductor and Intel have complained and even issued a "warning" to the old Americans. Continuing to cut off supply in Chinese companies will bring incomprehensible losses to the US semiconductor industry.
Perhaps because I felt the pressure, the attitude of the United States also changed. Recently, the United States finally gave up and gave "temporary exemption" to chip giants such as TSMC, Samsung , Qualcomm, SK Hynix and Intel. In other words, in the next year, these companies will not need to apply for additional licenses to supply goods freely.
At this critical moment, why did the Americans suddenly change their attitude? First, as mentioned earlier, the United States felt pressure. While modifying the chip ban, many American companies also suffered huge losses while preventing Huawei from developing. In order to appease these American companies, the United States had to do so.
Secondly, the rapid development of domestic chips has exceeded the expectations of the United States. Although we are currently only achieving rapid growth in the field of mid- and low-end chips, achieving self-sufficiency in mid- and low-end chips is more important than impacting the high-end chip market. As long as we can achieve self-sufficiency in mid- and low-end chips, we will completely reduce our dependence on US chips. Therefore, this move also has the intention of "confusing" domestic technology companies and allowing Chinese companies to slow down the pace of self-development of chips.
Still the same thing, no matter how the attitudes of American companies change or how the rules change, Chinese technology companies cannot forget Academician Ni Guangnan’s warning, core technology cannot be obtained! Only by insisting on independent research and development and firmly realizing the localization of chips can we stand firm.
