(MTC), a telecommunications operator in Namibia, has deployed a 475-kilometer fiber backbone network for its telecommunications sites within the framework of a S$100 million project, which will reduce congestion across the entire network.

The operator continues to launch its fiber-to-home infrastructure in cities such as Windhoek , Swakopmund and Walvis Bay . This deployment will be supported by other backbone extensions. The fiber network 's speed and bandwidth capabilities range from 5Mbps to 50Mbps depending on the software package selected by the customer.

MTC Director of Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Tim Ekandjo said: “This development solves the long wait for reliable connections, while also making the company’s journey to create sustainable value for all stakeholders through innovative digital solutions.”

MTC has more than 2.5 million users, according to data from the Namibia Communications Authority (CRAN).

The operator said that increased traffic and growing demand for digital services since Covid-19 are straining its telecom infrastructure and causing its network to slow down overall.
