In November last year, the official DropBox blog published an article "Thank you, Guido", revealing that Guido van Rossum is leaving and retiring. Later, Uncle Turtle himself confirmed it on Twitter.
One year later, at 1 AM today (November 13, 2020), Uncle Turtle announced a big news on Twitter that he would join Microsoft!
And in this tweet, many developers have begun to imagine the ability to use Python in Excel.

Guido van Rossum is the inventor of the Python programming language. was born in the Netherlands in 1956 and received a master's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Amsterdam in 1982.
From 1982 to 1995, van Rossum's first job after graduating from a master's degree was as a programmer at the Dutch Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), mainly engaged in the development of ABC language, Amoeba distributed operating system and various multimedia project. During this period, he invented the Python language, which is widely used today.
From 1995 to 1998, van Rossum was a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). From 1998 to 2000, he worked for the National Institute of Research and Innovation (CNRI). During the period, he mainly studied mobile agents in distributed systems using interpreted languages. Most of the work used the Python language he invented. In the following years, van Rossum worked for several startups such as BeOpen.com, Zope Corporation and Elemental Security.
From 2005 to 2012, van Rossum joined Google as a Senior Staff Engineer. During this period, he participated in projects such as internal code review tools Mondrian, App Engine, and open source code review tool rietveld.
From 2013 to 2019, van Rossum joined Dropbox as the chief engineer. During this period, he participated in the mypy project and worked to migrate more than 5 million lines of server-side code from Python2 to Python3. In October 2019, van Rossum resigned from Dropbox and began his retirement journey.
As the inventor of the Python language, van Rossum has served as the "Benevolent Dictator for Life" (BDFL) of the Python language until July 12, 2018. After resigning, he still actively participates in the construction and maintenance of the Python community.
In his career, the highest achievement is the creation of Python. And about Guido, there has always been an interesting paragraph: It is said that when Guido went to Google for an interview, he only wrote one sentence on his resume: I wrote Python. HR didn't understand it. It was not until the 10th round of the interview that he realized that this person is the author of python, not just "written" python programs.
Of course, the authenticity of this joke is relatively low. After all, he was already a famous industry leader when he went to Google for an interview.
Now, Guido van Rossum has chosen to join Microsoft. It is reported that he works with Typescript/C founder Anders, VS Code/Eclipse founder Eric, and Linux GNOME author Miguel. In the team of Pan Zhenglei, the senior vice president of Microsoft, Guido said: “I think retirement is boring, so I joined the Microsoft developer department. What to do? There are too many choices! But it will definitely make the use of Python even better. Good (not just on Windows). There is a lot of open source here."
Finally, "Life is short, I use Python."
