Microsoft recently released Windows 11 22H2 Moment 1, a major update that brings a lot of improvements to the core experience of Windows 11, but apparently the company is already preparing for the next update to the operating system. The update codenamed Moment 2 is expected to be launched in early 2023, after the 2022 update and the end of the promotion period for Moment 1.

Earlier today, on the 8th anniversary Webcast of the Windows Insider Program YouTube channel, the company was found running what appears to be an internal Windows 11 22H2 Moment 2 preview with build number 23003. This is a pre-recorded demo video of the touch-optimized tablet taskbar, and Microsoft explains how the taskbar can go from a 48-pixel high normal state to a higher state for a touch-based user experience.

More specifically, Microsoft showed what appears to be a version of Windows 11 build 23003, which is believed to be an earlier version of the Moment 2 update. The company hasn't discussed anything other than a taskbar optimized for tablets, so the lineup of features that will be part of Moment 2 still seems deliberately mysterious.

Today is the second time Microsoft has mentioned the update of Moment 2. The previous one happened in early September. The internal construction number at that time was 22940. This means the company has had some development versions since then.

As far as the update to Moment 1 is concerned, this new release brings a lot of improvements, including suggestion actions, taskbar overflow and instant access to the task manager, thanks to the app being added to the taskbar context menu, new sharing improvements, and a redesigned photo app. In addition, Moment 1 also brings the File Explorer tag to all users.
