Due to various factors, Samsung's number of employees in China gradually decreased to 60,000 in 2014, less than 50,000 in 2015, and less than 40,000 in 2017.
In 2018 and 2019, Samsung China employees dropped to less than 30,000, and to 20,000 in 2021. The trade war has had an important impact over the past few years. In addition, according to analysts, many foreign manufacturers' production bases have also moved from China to other regions, such as , Vietnam, and India.
On the other hand, Samsung's headcount in its native South Korea has grown by 20% in the past five years. This is attributed to the expansion of semiconductor factories in the country.
Samsung's decision to move its production base to other regions is also affected by factors such as laws and regulations, COVID-19 outbreak, increased labor costs, policy adjustments based on local demand, and rising prices.
Samsung has been scaling back its operations in China and has closed several factories over the past few years. Currently, Samsung only has one home appliance factory in operation in China, a semiconductor back-end processing factory in Suizhou, Hubei, and a memory semiconductor factory in Xi'an.
