According to a report by Rcrwireless on July 1, German mobile network testing agency Umlaut has begun operating a private 5G independent open RAN network, aiming to provide enterprises with a place to test private 5G solutions without having to build their own private network or purchase spectrum.

The 5G Campus Laboratory is located at the Umlaut headquarters in Aachen, Germany. Umlaut said the company partnered with Airspan Networks and Druid Software to build the network, which relies on private 5G spectrum licenses for 100 MHz of C-band spectrum and uses a virtualized architecture.
"5G is a key enabler of smart, connected products and manufacturing. Our 5G Campus Lab is for companies looking to take advantage of the latest wireless connectivity technologies, cloud-based Open RAN virtualized infrastructure and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas An ideal proving ground,” said Hakan Ekmen, CEO of Umlaut Telecom.
