2. Gecko is a kind of lizard, also known as " gecko ". In the southwest region, it is called "Babi tiger", "Babi lizard", etc. The body is flat dorsally and ventrally, and is lined with granular scales or mixed with wart scales. The ends of the fingers and toes are expanded, and skin folds are formed below them, which are densely covered with glandular hairs . They have the ability to adhere and can crawl quickly on walls, ceilings or smooth surfaces. Geckos are nocturnal animals. During the day, it lurks in hidden places such as wall cracks, under tile eaves, and behind cupboards, and comes out at night. In the evenings of summer and autumn, geckos often appear on walls illuminated by lights, under eaves or on electric poles, preying on mosquitoes, flies, moths and spiders, etc. They are beneficial and harmless animals.
3. When a gecko is frightened or when you catch it, as soon as you touch it, its tail will break immediately, and the gecko will take the opportunity to escape. This phenomenon is called "self-cutting" in zoology , also known as "self-cutting", "self-mutilation" and "self-cutting". Because there are many nerves in a broken tail, after it leaves the body, the nerves do not lose their function immediately, so they will still swing, which has a scaring effect, and sometimes can achieve the purpose of self-defense. As for some people who say that a gecko's tail will get into people's ears after being broken, this is absolutely impossible. Because most of the severed tails fall on the ground, even if they are still on the wall, although they still swing, they no longer have the ability to move directionally, so they will not get into people's ears. Someone asked: After a gecko breaks a section of its tail, will it affect its normal life? There is no need to worry, as the gecko’s tail will grow back soon after its tail is docked.
4. From the above understanding, we know that the gecko originally cut off its tail to protect itself, and its own tail will grow back in the future. It seems that the gecko cuts off its tail entirely to protect itself, but the cost is a bit high. But if the tail keeps falling off, is there no other way to escape? Unfortunately, I am not a gecko, and I have no way of knowing why geckos need to practice this escape method. It may be that the competition in the animal world is really cruel, with the weak eating the strong, natural selection, and survival of the fittest.
5. In fact, geckos are very good at catching prey. Once I carefully observed the entire process of gecko hunting: first, the gecko’s body and limbs were tightly attached to the wall, motionless, and quietly observing the changes around it. When prey was found, (mosquitoes, moths, etc.), it immediately moves its body quickly and smoothly to approach the prey, and then catches it by surprise, sticks out its tongue, opens its mouth wide, and swallows the prey into its mouth at once. The whole process is clean and neat, and it is amazing. It seems that the prey has become a delicacy in the gecko's mouth before it has time to react. The calmness of geckos when hunting is far beyond our imagination.
