Recently, the new immune and anti-tumor marine drug "BG136 for injection", which was developed by Qingdao West Coast company, passed the review of the State Food and Drug Administration and obtained the "Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice". Recently, the new immuno-anti-tumor marine Class I drug "BG136 for injection" (hereinafter referred to as "BG136") jointly developed by Qingdao Institute of Marine Biomedicine, Ocean University of China , and Chia Tai Pharmaceutical (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. passed the review of the National Medical Products Administration and obtained the "Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice". BG136, which was born in the Qingdao West Coast New District, is the first anti-tumor marine drug in the world to enter clinical trials. The approval of the drug's clinical trials marks that the new district has entered a new stage of development in assisting the development of the "blue drug library".

According to the BG136 R&D team, the drug is a marine carbohydrate compound with novel structure, unique activity and independent intellectual property rights obtained from polar seaweed. It is intended to be used in the treatment of patients with advanced solid tumors. BG136 is also the first time in the world that carbohydrate drugs derived from seaweed are used in tumor immunotherapy.

It is reported that tumor immunotherapy is a treatment method that overcomes the mechanism of tumor immunity evading and restores the body's normal anti-tumor immune response to control and eliminate tumors. Wang Minggang, President of Chia Tai Pharmaceutical (Qingdao) Co., Ltd., said that research shows that BG136 activates the body's immune system, enhances the body's immunity, and controls and kills tumor cells by binding to specific receptors on the surface of natural immune cells.

It is understood that BG136 is one of the key projects of China's "Blue Drug Library", and its approval to enter clinical trials is the result of the coordinated promotion of "government, industry, academia, research and funding". It not only initially formed a Chinese characteristic marine biomedicine R&D technology system, but also played a certain demonstration role in solving the difficulty of transforming marine scientific and technological achievements. The BG136 project has been researched for more than 10 years. Systematic and in-depth research has been conducted on the production process, quality standards and related substances of raw materials and preparations, etc., laying the material foundation for development. On this basis, in-depth research was conducted on the immune anti-tumor effect and mechanism of action, which systematically reflected the characteristics and advantages of the drug.

As a national new district with the national strategic mission of managing the ocean, West Coast New Area has listed marine biomedicine as one of the key industries it strives to build in recent years.
