in Liancheng County, Longyan City, Fujian Province

Guanglishan National Geological Park Laiyuan Cave Scenic Area,

Discover the stalactite wonder of the cave "sea shell stone".

doctoral student Zhang Jing from the Karst Geology Institute of the China Geological Survey said that the formation conditions of the cave "sea shell stone" are extremely harsh, and they are very rare and rare in karst caves. This type of stalactite has not yet been reported in other caves at home and abroad. The is the first time it has been discovered in China and even the world.

01

What does "Sea Shell Stone" look like?

Zhang Jing introduced that the monomer of the cave "Sea Shell Stone" is 2-10cm in size, with thin slits in the middle, and thin semicircular stalactite flakes distributed symmetrically on both sides, and the monomer is like "scallops". The composite shapes are crossed and overlapping each other, very much like the "sea shell group" with different directions on the coastal reefs, and the shape is also similar to " Desert Rose Stone " or "hydrangea".

Cave "Sea Shell Stone" is mainly distributed in pieces on the wall of the cave 20 meters away from the entrance, with an area of more than 5 square meters. It is initially judged that its formation mechanism may be similar to that of the cave shield. is a formation where water with static pressure overflows along the cave wall rock or early flow stone micro-joint cracks, and supersaturation occurs due to the evaporation of surface water. Calcium thin plates begin to precipitate on both sides and continue to grow outward in a semi-annular shape.

It is reported that stalactites such as have extremely high scientific value, aesthetic value and ornamental value, and are of great significance to the research and protection of karst caves around the world.

Next step,

Karst Institute of China Geological Survey

will organize the strength to conduct in-depth research on the cave "Sea Shell Stone" of Laiyuan Cave Group.

.

reveals its generation conditions, control factors, and formation mechanisms, and

to support the high-quality development of cave tourism.

Let's look forward to it together~
