Zhengguan News Comprehensive abc News reported on August 29 that a group of Arctic researchers from Denmark stated that they had arrived in Austria in order to collect samples. Dake Island, the northernmost island in the world was subsequently discovered. This unnamed island is located 780 meters north of Odak Island. Odak Island has been registered as the world’s northernmost island until then.
According to University of Copenhagen , this small island was discovered during the movement of ice floes. The island is about 30 meters x 60 meters in size and about 3 to 4 meters above sea level. According to reports, the research team does not believe that this discovery is the result of climate change. They reportedly suggested that the island should be named Qeqertaq Avannarleq, which means "the northernmost island" in Greenlandic.
The researchers said that this may be the result of a big storm. With the help of the ocean, the storm gradually pushed the material on the seabed together until it formed an island. At the same time, Danish researchers believe that the island is not expected to exist for a long time. No one knows how long it will last. In principle, once a new strong storm strikes, it will disappear.
