China Radio Network Xing'an December 19th news (Reporter Wang Qiulei and Intern Reporter Wei Quanmin) On December 18th, dozens of mallard ducks appeared in the Guiliuhe Ecological Park of Keyouqian Banner, Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia. They played and forage in the shallow water areas that were not frozen. Some flew at low altitudes, some combed their feathers, and some swam with the waves, forming a beautiful scenery in the park.

It is understood that Mallheads are national second-class protected animal . It is named after the bright green feathers on the neck of males. They can both swim and fly. They mainly live in lakes, rivers, ponds, swamps and other waters with rich aquatic plants. It also occurs in open lakes, reservoirs, rivers, sandbanks and marshes near coasts during winter and migration. Mallheads are omnivorous animals, mainly feed on plant foods such as leaves, buds, stems, algae and seeds of wild plant . They also eat animal foods such as mollusks, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. During autumn migration and wintering, they often go to harvested farmlands to feed the grains scattered on the ground. Foraging is often done in the early morning and dusk, and often rest on the beaches on the shores of rivers and lakes or on the sandbanks and small islands in the middle of the lake or swimming on the open water during the day.
