Many leaf bees grow in the mountains near Xishan Town. Every July to September of the lunar calendar, these night bees will migrate back to their nests to reproduce. Leaf bees are a very fierce bee species. As long as they hear sounds or shake to the nest, they will rush out of the nest and attack.
On October 24, 2022, Ruan Jinyong came to the wild forest near Shanjin Er Township on the border of Laos, as usual, searching for beehives. However, it was a coincidence that it started to fog early in the morning, and it was not until noon that the fog dissipated.
Ruan Jinyong has been busy since the morning until nearly 12 noon, but he can't even find a beehive. Ruan Jinyong was a little depressed and felt that it was likely that he would have a waste of time today. There was nothing he could do. He had been busy all morning and could not stop eating, so he ate some scrambled eggs and bread brought from home.
Around 1:30 noon, Ruan Jinyong climbed up a big tree and picked up a telescope to look around. As a result, after looking for a while, he found a big beehive hanging on a tree not far away.
When I saw this beehive, Ruan Jinyong was both surprised and excited because he had been digging honey in this wild forest for nearly 10 years, but he had never encountered such a big beehive.
Because the hive is too big, Ruan Jinyong cannot transport the hive down the mountain by himself, so he had to spend money to hire two more farmers to help.
At that time, seeing such a large hive, the two farmers were also frightened and refused to approach no matter what. There was no way, so Ruan Jinyong had to climb up the tree to get the hive in his protective suit.
Ruan Jin tied the head of the beehive with a rope, and then asked the two farmers to pull the rope from a distance to prevent the beehive from falling and breaking, which affects the quality.
In order to pick the hive, Ruan Jinyong climbed up the tree and cut off the surrounding tree canopy to drive away the flying bee swarm. After more than an hour of hard work, the hive was slowly placed on the ground. Because he was worried that the bee swarm would follow along, Ruan Jinyong also wrapped the hive tightly with a raincoat, so that the bee swarm could not smell the scent of the nest.
Then, Ruan Jinyong and one of the farmers carried the big hive to the bottom of the mountain. After arriving at the bottom of the mountain, Ruan Jinyong tied the hive to his waist and rode a motorcycle to his back home.
After getting home, Ruan Jinyong carefully measured the big hive with a tape ruler and an electronic scale, and found that the hive had 16 layers, 1.3 meters long, a maximum diameter of 240 cm, and a weight of about 21 kilograms.
