When he met Chen Yunji, a researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he was busy coding programs. There was a folding bed next to his desk, and the whiteboard on the side wall was full of various structural diagrams. "A scientific research project is about to end recently, and I have been busy." He smiled, "But I don't feel tired, so I'm interested in doing research."

In 2002, Chen Yunji entered Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and followed Hu Weiwu researcher to study in master's and doctoral studies, becoming the youngest member of the research and development team of Loongson at that time. After graduating from his PhD, Chen Yunji stayed at the Institute of Computing Technology in . In 2008, 25-year-old Chen Yunji became the main architect of 8-core Dragon Core No. 3. Loongson No. 3 is different from Loongson No. 1 and 2, and has developed from single core to multi-core. Chen Yunji gave an example: "In the past, one table of dishes was given to one table of guests, but now one table of dishes was given to eight tables of guests." To this end, Chen Yunji and his colleagues looked up a large number of papers, worked and fumbled, and solved a series of key problems.

Chen Tianshi is Chen Yunji's younger brother. He also graduated from the junior class of the University of Science and Technology of China. His research direction is Artificial Intelligence algorithm. One does hardware and the other does software, and the two brothers decided to work together to conduct cross-research on artificial intelligence and chip design. This stems from an idea they had when they were young - to make computers smarter. They have successively proposed a series of processor research and development technologies based on artificial intelligence methods.

"Doing basic research, you may not know where to go." Recalling that time, Chen Yunji felt deeply, "Difficult one after another, but the joy after the problem is solved is something that ordinary people cannot understand." In 2014, the world's first deep learning processor chip developed was successfully connected to the computer motherboard, with nearly a hundred times the energy efficiency of traditional chips, and successfully achieved the expected goals. Chen Yunji was overjoyed and said, "I slept hard for a while, and then started the next iteration.

Chen Yunji's team named the developed deep learning processor chip " Cambrian ", hoping to open a new era of artificial intelligence. After more than 10 years, deep learning processor chips have been used in tens of millions of smart terminals, involving smart phones, wearable devices, drone and intelligent driving. Related technologies won the second prize of National Natural Science Award .

In addition to developing a powerful artificial intelligence processor, Chen Yunji attaches great importance to the ecological layout of the artificial intelligence era. "While developing chip , we proposed a instruction set , which is completely different from general computing. "Chen Yunji explained that the instruction set is the language of "dialogue" between computer hardware and software, and is one of the foundations for building the information industry ecosystem.
