In April 2017, Yan Ning left Tsinghua University , who had been there for 10 years, and became the first tenured professor of the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University. Shirley Tillman is the world-renowned molecular biologist and the first female principal in more than 200 years since Princeton University was founded. Such a title is considered unique in the American professor sequence.
Before this, Yan Ning's reputation had long surpassed the scientific community and was well-known to the public.
She is mainly engaged in research on important membrane transporters related to diseases, the structure and working mechanism of voltage-gated ion channels, and the molecular mechanism of membrane protein regulating cholesterol metabolism pathway. graduated from Princeton and returned to Tsinghua to teach, becoming the "youngest professor at Tsinghua".
Since then, her scientific research results have been even more impressive. It is reported that the "Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Supporting Shenzhen in Building a Pilot Demonstration Zone for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" issued in 2019 proposed to support Shenzhen in exploring and building a new mechanism for the medical sciences.
The Guangdong Provincial Government Gazette in March 2021 issued the "Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences Construction Plan". The Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences selected Pingshan District . In accordance with the requirements of the new mechanism, mainly builds "four platforms and one think tank", striving to become a world-renowned medical research institution by the middle of this century.
According to the development goals in the "Plan", by 2025, the Shenzhen Medical Science Collaborative Innovation Community with the Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences as the center and bridge will be basically completed, research in some key areas has made progress, phased breakthroughs in the prevention and control technology for key populations and major diseases have been made, medical science and technology innovation capabilities have been improved, the operating mechanism of the Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences has gradually been improved, and the Institute of Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese characteristics has been basically established.
By 2035, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area medical science collaborative innovation body with Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences as the core engine will be more mature and established. Research in key areas has made significant progress, and significant breakthroughs have been made in key populations and key technologies for the prevention and control of major diseases have been made. The ability of medical science and technology innovation has been significantly enhanced.
