methane is also a common and difficult to trace pollutant. The fossil fuel industry sells it as “natural gas” for home heating and cooking stoves. And natural gas continues to leak from oil and gas fields, pipelines and even stoves. According to the International Energy Agency, about 82.5 million tons of methane escaped from the oil and gas industry last year.
