I think that if you do it, you have to do things that are directly useful to the project. It is boring to just publish some articles in scientific research. In the "third line", a large-scale experimental device that provides reliable experimental data for the thermal design and mode reactor operation of engineering reactors will be built and scientific research will be completed. This is exactly my wish. To serve the country and go to the places where the motherland needs the most is the eager expectation of our generation of young intellectuals.

11966, when it was still chilly in the spring, as a member of the "craft team", I came to Sichuan Nuclear Power Engineering Experimental Research and Construction Base. It was not called this name at that time. It was called "Southwest Hydropower Research Institute" for confidentiality and lived in a courtyard of the Baima Temple Party School. The house is made of walls made of soil on bamboo fence . Unlike the northern houses, the walls are thick and cold and unaccustomed to it. A few months later, I moved to the No. 2 Bridge Head to work in a house built with soil and sand blocks, and had a meal at the "Yan'an Canteen" built with straw and bamboo. But no matter what the environmental conditions are, it does not affect the enthusiasm for work at all.

"Five Only Sons"

When we first formed the base thermal engineering team in Beijing in early 1966, we had 8 people, from 194, 715, and 703, Harbin. We divided into two groups, one to the base to cooperate with the laboratory civil engineering design, and the other to manufacturers across the country to cooperate with the production of scientific research equipment. 7 of the 27th Company of the Second Machinery Department is responsible for the construction. The task of the "craft team" is to be responsible for the laboratory's process design and civil engineering design, among which I am responsible for the thermal laboratories. At that time, the laboratory construction site was located in the hills, with ravines between the hills, and farmlands were scattered among them, connected by mountain paths, and there were not even paths in some places. The construction of my country's first generation nuclear power research and development base began with nothing.

It is a scene of large-scale cooperation and battles across the country. With great unity and everyone’s work, we call it the “Four Styles”.

After investigation, several major laboratories involving hydraulics, thermal engineering, zero power, drive mechanism, and regulator circuit are scattered in various ravines in a hilly area. They are called "five only children", which means "a unique engineering laboratory in China". After that, the survey is conducted. After the survey, the "three connections and one leveling" will be carried out (energy, water, pathways, and flat foundations). Building a house in the valley farmland is difficult. The ditch is full of silt and rice fields. First, a deep layer must be dug, concrete piles must be drilled into it, concrete beams must be erected, and then a house must be built on the beams. "Three connections and one leveling" is also very difficult, with few mechanical operations, and many of them rely on manual labor. I participated in the labor of pulling and burying cables from the substation No. 2 to the construction site.

We design and build at the same time, which is very efficient. The base construction started in February 1966. In April, I returned to Beijing to continue to participate in the unfinished experiments. When I came back in November, half of the construction was built and the main building was completed. Installation and debugging began in March of the following year. In November 1968, a hot test drive of the Daluo circuit was successfully put into production.

In less than three years from early 1966 to 1968, most laboratories were built one after another, scientific research equipment began to be installed, and experiments were successively put into operation. my country's first comprehensive nuclear power experimental research base with complete professionalism, combination of design and experimental research, and comprehensiveness was built like this, with a total of 15 work numbers. This is a miracle.

Scientific research construction site is full of hot scenes

We are working in scientific research and production in a pre-war manner, so we are called "Scientific Research Soldiers" and are numbered "China People's Liberation Army 137 Unit". I feel very honored for this.

We have the heavy trust of the Party and the country, and we work hard in revolution, conduct research during the day, eat and live on construction sites, and continue to work after political studies at night, often working overtime until late at night. First produce and then live, there are no other remuneration, bonuses or overtime pay except wages. Working overtime late at night, a bowl of steaming noodles is the best comfort. The longest continuous work is 30 hours. The entire construction site is the same day and night, the holidays are usually the same, the mass cadres are the same, and there is a steaming scene everywhere. is under scientific research. If the equipment is broken, then disassemble it and repair it yourself; if there is any problem with the circuit instrument, then redesign it and pick it up by yourself. We must not only be responsible for the experimental plan and design the experimental body, but also process it yourself, install it manually, participate in the operation, and do the experiments by yourself to see if the experimental plan you formulate is reasonable and whether the designed experimental body is easy to use. We will find unexpected problems from the experiment, solve abnormalities in the experiment in a timely manner, carefully observe the phenomena and problems in the experiment, and analyze and solve them. After an experiment, except for this major, the machinery, electrical, measurement, control, and instruments have been fully trained. I can't say I am proficient, but I understand a little. We even studied and summarized a set of experiences in main pump failure and maintenance.

After nearly a year of hard work, we have overcome four major technical difficulties, completed the research tasks ahead of schedule, and provided reliable experimental data and empirical formulas to ensure that the mode stack can operate successfully and safely and reliably at full power.

In November 2011, the China Nuclear Power Institute celebrated its 40th anniversary. At the age of 75, I was invited to attend a symposium of new and old comrades and submitted a written speech. In this speech, I did not mention the decades of hardships in scientific research, nor did I mention the achievements and contributions I have made.

I would like to talk about my many years of experience and experience in thermal hydraulic experimental research, which may be of some help to comrades who have done experimental research well and for the first time.

I have put forward my own experience from nine aspects: the difference between experiments and experiments, how to do error analysis, how to do post-experiment research, how to make full use of the experimental bench, how to select experimental model simulation ratios, the relationship between experimental results and program calculations, to do experiments by hand, to master program calculations, and to carry forward team spirit, and to gain wide praise from the new generation of scientific researchers.
