On the vast territory of our country, there is a long coastline from north to south. These rugged edges constitute a rich terrain characteristics for our country. Bohai is one of the most famous inland sea in my country. According to statistics from previous years, although the Bohai Sea is not small, the average sea water depth is only about 18 meters. If this continues, will the Bohai Sea disappear and become a new land? What is the reason for the shallowness of the seawater depth? In addition, Shandong and Northeast regions blocked by the Bohai Sea are only more than 100 kilometers apart. Why not build cross-sea bridge to shorten the distance between the two?
1. Special Bohai
As one of the inland seas in my country, the Bohai Sea is also the northernmost offshore in my country. Its surrounding areas are closely surrounded by Liaoning, Shandong, Tianjin and Hebei provinces, forming a unique C-shaped inland sea. According to observations by geologists, the Bohai Sea should be the first extension of the sub-European continent. Due to the settlement of plate movement, the sea level of rose and . After invading the plate, many rivers poured in, resulting in the current Bohai Sea. As early as the Western Zhou Dynasty, the Bohai Sea had become a natural condition for local residents to survive. Among the known historical materials, the Bohai Sea was first called Shaohai, until Su Qin first named it Bohai. It has been used to this day since then.
Unlike other offshore areas in my country, the Bohai Sea is tightly wrapped by Shandong and Northeastern regions, and a considerable area is adjacent to land. This unique advantage has made many cities along the Bohai Sea become important ports, bringing great economic vitality to Bohai Rim region. In addition, with the development of economy and industry, rich oil mineral resources have been discovered in the Bohai Sea area. These god-given treasures have made the Bohai Sea a treasure pot for China. In recent years, cities in the Bohai Rim region have begun to build tourism, transforming the beautiful scenery advantages of the Bohai Sea into economic advantages, bringing more income-generating conditions to local residents. On the surface, the development of the Bohai Rim region is improving, but in fact there are many potential crises hidden.
2. Will the Bohai Sea really disappear?
Things have two sides to develop. The Bohai Sea’s appearance of going deep into the inland makes it a natural safe haven, but at the same time it will be affected to a greater extent by the inland. The first thing that has the impact on many impacts is environmental pollution. At the beginning of the founding of New China, the Northeast region, as the eldest son of the Republic, was the largest heavy industrial base, and the pollution emissions were very serious. With the development of Shandong, Tianjin and other places, a large amount of sewage has been discharged into the Bohai Sea, causing huge damage to the water body. According to statistics, the Bohai Sea has to bear more than 30% of the national sewage discharge every year, which turns the sea area into a huge garbage dump. Although the government has begun to issue governance measures to vigorously improve the pollution situation, there is still a long way to go to completely restore the Bohai Sea.
In addition, the depth of the Bohai Sea has also become a worrying problem. At present, the main rivers that my country has entered the Bohai Sea include Haihe , Liaohe , Luanhe , and Yellowhe . In addition, there are more than 40 tributaries of different sizes, with the Bohai Sea as the end of the rushing stream. After these rivers entered the Bohai Sea, in addition to the integration of their own water sources with the Bohai Sea, they also brought huge amounts of silt and sand to the Bohai Sea. After the sand came to the Bohai Sea, it lost the impact of the river before, and quickly settled at the estuary, gradually accumulated, forming beach land. Before the 1990s, the Yellow River alone brought more than 1.6 billion tons of silt to the Bohai Sea every year on average. After adding other rivers, the area of the Bohai Sea is decreasing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
If you observe from a satellite map, in 1984, the cities such as Huludao , yingkou , Jinzhou near the estuary of the Liaohe River were far smaller than today's range, both in the arable land area and the urban residential area area. After rough calculations, the extension of land plates caused by the accumulation of silt and dust at the estuary caused the coastline to expand outward for more than 10 kilometers. In contrast, the Bohai Sea has also narrowed its 10-kilometer border. In addition to the estuary of the Liaohe River, the same situation also occurred on several other main main streams. In 1984, the area near Tianjin Binhai New Area was still a very small area. But looking at today's satellite map, this area has expanded dozens of times. As the Yellow River with the most sandy content, its estuary extends more than 10 kilometers. According to experts' predictions, if such silt content is maintained, the Bohai Sea is likely to completely disappear within 500 years.
So is this really the case? Experts' predictions were not groundless and soon attracted the attention of local governments. To solve this problem, the country has taken several measures to finally prevent the situation from worsening. In the final analysis, if you want to solve the continuous shrinking of the Bohai Sea area, you must start by controlling the amount of silt and sand. Since the 1990s, cities along the Yellow River Basin in my country have built a large number of reservoirs to control the flow of the Yellow River for local development. This measure has also successfully blocked a large amount of silt and sand from pouring into the sea. The main reason why the Yellow River has a large amount of silt and sand is that the middle and upper reaches of the river is that the forest and grass areas that maintain a large amount of water and soil have been developed into farming areas. This has led to the looser soil along the river and more susceptible to the erosion and carrying of the Yellow River. In order to solve this situation, the country strictly controls the opening process of the Yellow River Basin and promotes large-scale measures to return farmland to forests, so as to improve the situation of soil erosion.
In addition to these artificial adjustment measures, urban development is also changing the natural environment. The scale of cities along the Yellow River has expanded rapidly, and residents' water consumption is increasing day by day. The originally rushing mother river often experiences dry rivers and broken rivers over the years. These situations have both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, this has made life difficult for the surrounding residents, but on the other hand, it has significantly reduced the sediment content of the Yellow River entering the sea.
In short, after more than ten years of governance, the Bohai Sea has no worries about disappearing, but how to adjust the overall natural environment is still a major issue for the country.
3. Cross-sea bridge
From a geographical perspective, Shandong and Northeastern regions are located at the two endpoints of the C-shaped Bohai Sea, and the distance between the two endpoints is only more than 100 kilometers, which is very suitable for building a cross-sea bridge to communicate with the two places. From the perspective of economic development, it is currently necessary to bypass the entire C-shaped shape from Shandong to the Northeast, with a distance of up to 1,800 kilometers, which is very unfavorable for land transportation and economic exchanges. If you rely on sea transportation, although the distance is relatively close, the cost is relatively high. This is also why many people want to build a cross-sea bridge on the Bohai Sea. On the surface, this idea is very reasonable. But in fact, there are many problems that need to be solved in building a cross-sea bridge. As early as shortly after reform and opening up , some scholars proposed this idea and even made an estimate of the cost. From the perspective of project cost, the cost of building the Bohai Cross-Sea Bridge may reach 300 billion yuan, which is a huge expense for local finances. So even though the cross-sea bridge may bring economic growth, in the short term, this project is still a bottomless pit. In addition, the development of aviation high-speed rail in recent years has greatly impacted land transportation, which has made both sides lose the momentum for construction.
So if the state invests in the construction, leaving the two places without financial worries, will this project be successful? In fact, even without financial pressure, it is still extremely difficult to build a cross-sea bridge in the Bohai Sea. If the two endpoints of the Bohai C-shaped shape are connected into a line on the map, you can clearly find that this is located on the seismic belt at the junction of the plates. The culprit of the Tangshan earthquake that occurred in my country before was this active earthquake zone. Therefore, the construction of a cross-sea bridge here must take into account the problem of natural disaster . If the bridge that cost hundreds of billions of yuan is completed and fails to collapse after the earthquake, it will bring unpredictable losses to the country. It can be seen from this that the difficulties faced by establishing this cross-sea bridge are very complex and are not as simple as everyone imagines. No one knows what level of development in the future technology can develop. When a revolutionary breakthrough in human construction technology occurs, the construction of the Bohai Bridge will be officially put on the agenda.
