On the morning of December 31, the launch meeting of the "China Clinical Intervention Guidelines for Osteoporosis Drugs after Hip Fragility Fracture Surgery (2023 Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines") was held at the Shunde District Third People's Hospital. The meeting brought together more than 20 authoritative experts in the field of orthopedics from across the country to discuss the specific work content of the "Guidelines" through offline and online forms, and conducted in-depth discussions on osteoporosis community prevention and treatment.

As the aging of my country's social population becomes increasingly serious, the incidence of osteoporosis among the elderly is increasing year by year. According to statistics, there are as many as 60 million osteoporosis patients over the age of 65 in my country every year, which not only costs my country's medical insurance billions of yuan, but also places a considerable burden on the patients' families and society. Hip fractures in the elderly have become an increasingly important public health problem.
Professor Liu Kangyan from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University said that fragility fracture is the most serious complication of osteoporosis, often involving the vertebral body, hip, distal radius and other parts. The hip ( groin ) is the center of a series of body movements because it is located at the connection between the trunk and the legs. Fragility fractures of the hip cause symptoms such as pain, limited mobility, and shortening and external rotation deformity of the lower limbs. The disability and mortality rates are high, and they have a huge impact on the health of the elderly.

Professor Zhang Zhenlin, chairman of the Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Diseases Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Professor Zhang Zhenlin from the Sixth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, pointed out that the significance of writing the "Guidelines" is to use fragility hip fractures in the elderly as an entry point, combined with existing experience and international practices, and based on my country's national conditions, to systematically sort out and standardize this elderly disease, so as to guide the treatment and full management of hip fragility fractures in various parts of the country, and improve the treatment and rehabilitation effects and quality of life of patients with hip fragility fractures in my country.
Why is the formulation of a national "Guidelines" related to Shunde ? This is inseparable from the talent pool and practical exploration of osteoporosis medical and prevention work in Shunde. As the chairman of the Shunde District Medical Association and the Osteoporosis Branch of the Chinese and Western Medical Association, Liang Jiangsheng, president of the Shunde District Third People's Hospital, has actively promoted the integration of medical and prevention in recent years to improve the diagnosis and treatment of Shunde District osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures.
Liang Jiangsheng introduced that according to the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Establishment of Medical Institutions in Foshan", the Third People's Hospital of Shunde District has been included in the planning scope for upgrading from a secondary hospital to a tertiary hospital during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. On August 9, 2022, the hospital reconstruction and expansion project officially started. And promoted as a key project, the hospital has made steady progress and is getting better. Among them, orthopedics (osteoporosis) is a key cultivation specialty. By integrating hospital resources, based on the two-way referral model, and using the osteoporosis specialty as a link to build an osteoporosis prevention and treatment center with Beijiao Town .
The reporter also learned that in recent years, the field of osteoporosis prevention and treatment in Shunde has developed rapidly. Among them, Lunjiao Hospital, as the first osteoporosis prevention and treatment base in the province, has achieved good results in promoting osteoporosis. With the help of the "Healthy Town" project built by the Lunjiao government, free bone density testing is provided for permanent residents over 40 years old, making osteoporosis one of the key chronic diseases. We vigorously promote hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, family doctor contracting and medical care integration to create a grassroots chronic disease prevention and control system with "comprehensive screening and full management" to ensure the health of residents.
At the same time, Shunde is comprehensively promoting the medical prevention of osteoporosis with "prevention" as the first priority and "medicine" as the supplement. By building a grassroots chronic disease prevention and control system, we carry out osteoporosis science education, improve the public's awareness of osteoporosis, and strive to improve the healthy bone level of the people.
