Below are data related to the epidemic in Hong Kong until 2022-12-1. The chart comes from the documents published on the Hong Kong Vaccination Program Special Website. The data include vaccination-related data and various data related to vaccination completion and mortality. For us, the main ones that can be used as reference in these data are the Kerrifer vaccine, that is, the Sinovac inactivated vaccine developed in China, and the other Fubitai vaccine is the mRNA vaccine (same as Pfizer vaccine). Currently, there is basically no vaccination in the mainland, so there is no reference value.
According to the data, the mortality rate for those under 50 years old is extremely low, almost none, but after the age reaches 70, the mortality rate begins to soar. After the age of 80, the mortality rate is more outrageous. After the full vaccination of three shots, it is still close to 2%! However, in the chart, the age group is no longer divided, among which a certain proportion of elderly people who are over 90 or even over 100 are close to or even reaching natural lifespan. Therefore, we will not refer to the data over 80 years old. So we mainly refer to the age group of 70-80. In the figure below, I have circled the corresponding data of Sinovac using an orange box. has completed the second, third and fourth shots, and only 1 shot was vaccinated. The mortality rate still reached the average level of the early original strains. We only look at the mortality rate of 2 shots: 0.71%, and the mortality rate of 3 shots: 0.28%. Even after the most complete reinforcement of 3 shots, the age group is nearly twice as high as the advertised average of 0.15%. 2 needles are as high as 0.7%. This is Hong Kong with a life expectancy of up to 85 years.
How should we?

But if you are more careful, you may find that in the population that needs key protection - infants and young children and the elderly, most of the people who are vaccinated with Sinovac inactivated vaccines! In other words, during the vaccination stage, the population has actually been screened. Since the adverse reactions are smaller and safer when vaccinated, the Sinovac inactivated vaccine are generally vaccinated with high-risk populations. Assuming that under the same protective effect, it is obvious that the mortality rate of these high-risk populations who are vaccinated with Sinovac due to safety considerations will inevitably be higher than that of people who choose to receive mRNA vaccines!
It is better to understand it by taking a metaphor for a key high school that everyone is familiar with: the key high school screens out the best group of students during the middle school entrance examination, so even if its teaching quality is the same as that of ordinary high schools, its admission rate must be higher than that of ordinary high schools, because its student source itself is better than that of ordinary high schools. Is it not that simple to see the data in Hong Kong using this logic? Whether the protection rate of mRNA vaccines must be higher than inactivation is not sure. This is less certain in Hong Kong's data, and more and more average data are needed. However, the ability of heterologous mixing to increase protection should be relatively certain, because it has an intuitive reflection at the neutralizing antibody level. Medical experts such as Zhong Nanshan have also repeatedly called for heterologous vaccination. If you have the conditions, you can consider choosing heterologous vaccination.
