It is these big hands that have "swapped" the muscles and bones of tens of thousands of patients with limbs for more than 40 years, and have led them to a new life.

In 1977, Qin Sihe, who was working in the surgery department of Miaoshan Commune Hospital in Laiwu County, was sent to Jinan Central Hospital for further study. Zeng Guoying, director of the orthopedics department of the hospital, was able to use surgery to treat the sequelae of polio, which aroused his interest in learning. Through searching the information, he found that there were very few doctors in China who specialize in surgical treatment of numbness and were determined to devote their energy to the cause of benefiting disabled people.

In May 1978, Qin Sihe successfully treated two teenagers' horseshoe valgus feet deformity at Miaoshan Hospital, which caused a sensation in Laiwu County. Since then, many patients with lower limb deformities and disabled people across the country have come to him for medical treatment. In 1981, he took the lead in establishing an orthopedic surgery team at Miaoshan Hospital. 3 doctors and 20 beds, this is the first orthopedic department established by a township hospital in my country.

Qinsihe found that among the patients who came to seek medical treatment in various places, Heilongjiang Province is the most, which may be related to the high cold and low sunshine there. In 1985, the Jiamusi Municipal Government came to Shandong to hire him twice, and Qin Sihe moved his family to Jiamusi to establish the Heilongjiang Provincial Polio Sequelae Correction Center, busy between Baishan and Hei River, and shoulder the task of correcting disabled patients in high-altitude areas.

From 1988 to 1993, the state implemented the "three rehabilitation of disabled people" such as correction of sequelae of polio, which was the busiest time in his life. Since 1990, he has served as the director of the Correction of Sequelae of Polio in Beijing and Heilongjiang Province. In the six years of "three rehabilitation", he has presided over more than 10,000 corrective surgeries for sequelae of polio, and at most 29 cases in one day.

In early 1993, Qin Sihe was transferred to Beijing and worked in Guanzhuang Hospital in Chaoyang District (Chaoyang District Orthopedic Surgery Hospital) and Beijing Chuiyangliu Hospital ; from 2012 to the present, he was invited to the Affiliated Rehabilitation Hospital of the National Rehabilitation Aids Research Center to establish the largest orthopedic surgery department in China for the treatment of limb disability . Patients with limb deformity do not have the same gait; Qin Sihe personally encountered more than 220 diseases that can lead to limb deformity. Just talking about numbness, the virus can invade any muscle in the human body, and the paralysis and disability degree of each patient are different. In Miaoshan, when patients flocked from all over the country, the young Qinsi River received treatment, surgery during the day and studied at night. When he encountered someone he didn't understand, he wrote a letter to the famous doctors such as Wu Shouyi and whom he came into contact with during further studies. He was afraid that the teachers would ignore him, a township doctor, so he also sent a bag of peanuts produced in his hometown from time to time. In 1980, he visited the Orthopedics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine; in 1981, he went to several hospitals in Shanghai and Guangzhou at his own expense to visit and learn orthopedics and lower limb extension surgery.

Qin Sihe paid attention to clinical academic research, thought and summarized, and personally followed up more than 7,000 patients with limb disabilities, which is unique in the industry. In the album, some patients' photos spans seven or eight years, or even longer. There are also many photos of Qin Sihe and the patients. Sometimes Qin Sihe appeared in the other party’s house in suit and tie, and he took the opportunity to go out to find the patient; some were photographed in hotels and halls, and the patient came to find him. He said that the patient's appearance in real life cannot be replaced by a discharge photo. It is difficult to deeply understand the needs of patients, causes of diseases, and postoperative development and changes without actual conditions; he also uses this to reflect on whether his surgical goals and methods are appropriate.

Apart from having sex with patients, Qinsihe has almost no entertainment. He summarized while treating the disease. At the age of 32, Qin Sihe began to publish papers in " Chinese Journal of Pediatric Surgery " and other "Chinese" series of magazines; at the age of 34, the project "Surgery Treatment Research on the Sequelae of Polio Flail Legs" won the second prize of Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress.

In 1988, the 37-year-old Qin Sihe was awarded the title of "Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Expert with Outstanding Contributions" by the Ministry of Personnel, and he was given the opportunity to study abroad. But this year, the "three rehabilitation" began, and the patient's letter of seeking medical treatment flew over like snowflakes. "The patient needs me like this, how can I go?" He gave up studying abroad. For the sake of the patient, he did not pursue his dream of taking the postgraduate entrance examination when he was young.

He demanded himself and the team.He led the team to create the largest and most complete database of surgical cases in China with limb deformities and disabilities. The treatment scope spans more than 10 disciplines including bone, vascular , nerve, endocrine, skin, etc., and covers more than 220 diseases. He also pioneered the "world's first" in many academic research and diagnosis and treatment models: for the first time, he proposed the "flail leg after polio" and the first "Qin's orthopedic surgery method for the tilt deformity". He first created and interpreted the "orthopedic natural reconstruction concept", used more than 280 surgical methods, of which more than 50 innovative and improved surgical methods were used, with the excellent rate of surgery reaching more than 94%. The age is 1-82 years old, the average age is 23.52±17.18 years old, and the proportion of cases aged 6-30 years old is 80.42%. There were 34,795 cases of lower limb surgery, accounting for 94.90%. The geographical distribution covers all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country and 13 countries abroad except Macau. The etiology and diseases include 227 neurologic, genetic, metabolic, traumatic sequelae, congenital, blood vessels, lymph , skin, endocrine, iatrogenic, etc. The most 6 are sequelae of polio , cerebral palsy, traumatic sequelae, spina bifida sequelae, congenital horseshoe valgus foot and developmental hip dislocation.

They provide epidemiological basis for the prevention and treatment of various limb deformity and disability, and are of great reference significance for the development of limb reconstruction surgery in other units and even other countries.

Qin Sihe said that the database of limb disability surgery cases he established is the greatest wealth contributed to the medical community, and in a few decades, it will be able to prove its far-reaching academic and historical significance.

In September 2012, Qin Sihe went to Brazil to attend the ILLRS Conference and signed on behalf of China, and China became an official member of the ILLRS.
