China News Service, Beijing, November 5 ( Liu Huan ) In recent years, weight loss has been a hot topic in society. Various methods such as diet and exercise are emerging one after another. However, some people have eating disorders.

Anorexia, binge eating, vomiting...How can inappropriate weight loss methods cause eating disorders? Can this disease be prevented and cured?

"Food is like swallowing my black hole"

After losing 30 pounds suddenly, Ye Zi was insomnia every night.

"Food is like swallowing my black holes. I don't want to sleep every night, and I'm afraid that I will face them after waking up." Ye Zi is 22 years old this year, and it has been ten years since her first excessive diet triggers anorexia.

"If I don't get the first place in the exam, then I have to be the thinnest one." Ye Zi said that she has been on a diet since junior high school, "only eat low-calorie or less in the school cafeteria."

The weight of the leaves has dropped, and their physical condition has also occurred. Many inspection indicators show abnormalities. In the past, she could run around the playground for 20 laps, but before the high school entrance examination, it was difficult for her to finish even one lap. "I still remember that the teacher pulled me aside and asked me a question that I would never forget for life - 'Do you have any disease?'"

At that time, my family and doctors thought it was because Ye Zi had stomach disease , which caused malnutrition.

Leaf's diet did not stop. Facing the food, she was like a string that was always tight.

One day, the string suddenly broke.

leaves begin to show symptoms of gluttony - eating a lot, and then constantly inducing vomiting due to regret. The height of 174cm and the weight soared to 160 kilograms.

She finally realized her eating problems, but shortly after the eating disorder was diagnosed, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder .

"In adolescence, I performed very well, with a slim figure and excellent grades, but there are many black holes behind these that no one has seen."

Ye Zi's academic pressed the pause button, and she had to turn off the admission opportunities from foreign universities. "This is the most thoroughly broken time."

"Gene has loaded the eating disorder, and the environment has been triggered."

Eating Disorders are a group of syndromes characterized by abnormal eating behavior. This group of diseases mainly include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, etc., which are mental disorders.

The main feature of anorexia is that patients deliberately cause low weight by using various methods such as dieting. Glutinous eating is repeated binge eating and inappropriate counteracting behavior after binge eating, such as vomiting, abuse of laxatives, excessive exercise, etc. Binge eating is repeated binge eating but no counteracting behavior.

For the cause, the "FAQs and Answers for Eating Disorders (II) Identification and Coping with Eating Disorders" released by the Sixth Hospital of Peking University in 2016 reads: "The accurate cause is unknown. It seems that all factors work, including genetic, family behavior and cultural factors."

He Yi, who has experienced eating disorders for 7 years, borrowed a metaphor: "Genes load the eating disorders, and the environment has been triggered."

He Yi recalled that during college, almost all the girls around him were losing weight, and she also tried many ways - Apple three-day weight loss method , taking weight loss pills and laxatives...

Thinking of that time, He Yi said that he not only often overeats and induces vomiting, but also overexercises, and his weight jumps repeatedly like a yo-yo. "I was very paranoid at that time and was a little obsessed with it. I can't remember how many rounds I had lost weight."

He Yi was panicked until he had vomited twice in a month because of vomiting and vomiting. She wants help.

That was around 2013. He Yi discovered that there was very little research on the treatment and research of eating disorders in China. With a strong sense of stigma, she decided to buy a book herself and follow the methods on the book to treat it.

After her physical condition gradually improved, He Yi mustered up the courage to go to the Sixth Hospital of Peking University for treatment. She hopes that the doctor can give her some psychological support and advice.

But after going to the hospital, she realized that psychiatrists and psychological counselors are different jobs. Psychiatrists only prescribe diagnosis and medication and provide simple counseling, but they cannot provide psychological counseling.

This is also one of the cognitive misunderstandings of many patients with eating disorders.

"I am a complete person, and I should not only focus on my body"

At the end of September this year, Su Ze rushed to Shanghai from Guangzhou and was admitted to the ward of Shanghai Mental Health Center . Previously, Su Ze had received psychological counseling in Guangzhou due to anorexia and low weight.

He just turned 18 and was about to prepare for the college entrance examination in the classroom, but anorexia caused him to be mentally distracted and emotionally unstable, which seriously affected his life. Since he did not receive proper treatment in Guangzhou, Su Ze came to Shanghai.

He told China News Service that he lives in an open ward, and the treatment methods include: arranging psychology courses such as psychodynamics, dietary therapy, personal therapy and family therapy.

"Which one should choose for healthy diet and body shape?" This question runs through Su Ze's entire treatment process.

"A lot of people praise me when I lose weight. Any photo looks good. How can I not be anxious about my figure?"

Chen Biao, attending physician of the Department of Psychology at Daqing Oilfield General Hospital, introduced to China News Service that patients with eating disorders often suffer from unhealthy diet and exercise due to external evaluation and own pressure. After affecting their emotions and bodies, they will fall into a vicious cycle and develop vomiting and other behaviors.

"The most common saying of the patients who came is: 'Doctor, I don't want this, but I can't control it'." Chen Biao said.

He believes that the cognitive behavior of patients with eating disorders should be treated, and by establishing mutual aid groups such as families, doctors, and patients, we can form a support system and use drug assistance to jointly help patients correct their thinking and change their behavior. "We have to let them understand: I am a complete person, and I should not only focus on my body, but train myself to discover my own strengths."

After recovering from eating disorders, He Yi came up with the idea of becoming a psychological worker.

She chose to change careers and studied for a master's degree in clinical social work to learn more about psychological intervention. She also established a public account called "Yidi" and Zhihu HTML No. 2, which was jointly operated with two like-minded friends, and conducted popular science online to help people with eating disorders learn more about the disease.

In He Yi's opinion, patients read more self-rehabilitation guidelines and participate in some online patient mutual aid associations are also some effective treatment methods.

Wang Shuyue, a nutritionist at the Nutrition Department of Hangzhou Children's Hospital, added that dietary treatment for patients with eating disorders is also very important.

She pointed out that due to gastrointestinal dysfunction and lack of trace elements caused by abnormal eating behavior, treatment needs to be based on clinical diagnosis, through the configuration of scientific medical formula foods, and targeted correction of patients' dietary habits in order to balance nutrition.
