Experts point out that when there are deformities in both the femur and tibia, if such deformities are corrected only by single tibial lateral osteotomy or femoral lateral osteotomy, the correction may be insufficient, and the residual valgus deformities may also lead to non-physiological tilt of the joint line after surgery, resulting in increased shear force on the cartilage on the joint surface. Long-term shear stress will cause the cartilage to exceed its load limit, causing damage to the cartilage surface and speeding up the occurrence and progress of osteoarthritis. In addition, tilting the joint line may also cause sagging of ligaments around the knee joint, which can easily cause instability when loading weights.

Therefore, based on the patient's specific condition, the knee protection team has formulated a personalized and precise knee protection treatment plan for the patients: the left knee joint is subjected to distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) and proximal tibial high osteotomy (HTO) at the same time to correct the severe valgus deformity of the left knee and better restore the joint force line and the normal anatomical angle of the knee joint to achieve the purpose of knee protection.
