When the human body has sufficient nutritional content and ensures that there is no malnutrition, limiting the total calories consumed every day can obtain many metabolic-related benefits.

The most popular thing is that it can control weight and help lose weight.

But it is easy in theory, but it may not be simple to execute, especially to accurately calculate the calories of each food and control your own mouth, which "dissuads" many people who want to lose weight.

But don't be discouraged. The latest research in Nutrients magazine found that if you cannot achieve calorie limits in , you can get a similar effect by reducing protein intake appropriately. "You just need to set your protein intake to a standard of 0.8 g/kg to get the same results as the calorie limiting clinical test," said Rafael Ferraz-Bannitz, Ph.D., of Harvard Medical School, who is the first author of the new study. "You don't need to deliberately control the total calories during this process."

Does this sound very attractive? Things have become easier again.

The new study recruited 21 patients with metabolic syndrome to participate in the analysis, who had a class of diseases that increased the risk of cardiovascular and diabetes, including hypertension, excessive waist fat or abnormal cholesterol levels.

During the 27-day experimental process, they were divided into two groups. One group of volunteers ate a Western diet, which consisted of 50% carbohydrate , 20% protein and 30% fat, but the overall caloric intake was 25% lower than the base amount.

But the second group of volunteers is much easier. The overall caloric intake is strictly set according to the upper limit of energy consumption. They do not need to eat less , but only need to reduce the proportion of protein in the food to 10% .

In 27 days, researchers observed similar improvement results in the two groups of volunteers. For example, the blood sugar levels of the volunteers were reduced, and cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides, and other indicators were developing in the direction of getting better. The key is that the patient's weight has decreased compared to before.

This is fully reflected in body shape and appearance. According to the research measurement, the body fat content of volunteers decreased, with waist circumference decreased by 2% in the calorie restriction group, while the protein restriction group was reduced by 5%, and hip circumference decreased by 2% and 3.5% in the two groups, respectively.

These data are enough to prove that slightly controls the amount of protein to obtain coveted results .

It is worth mentioning that a protein-restricted diet can reduce body fat while maintaining muscle mass. This is very unique because some calorie-restricted diets in the past have also dropped when reducing weight.

However, studies have not yet analyzed in detail what molecular mechanisms within the body contribute to this result when protein limitations are restricted. The authors speculate that the reduction in protein triggers the body's specific metabolic pathways, enhancing fat burning to provide cells with the nutrient molecules and energy they need.

"So far, we still have only one hypothesis that is likely to see the reduction of essential amino acid as a calorie reduction, which then produces some hormones that increase when calorie restricted, accelerating the consumption of fat ." Dr. Ferraz-Bannitz said.

But no matter what the principle is, the weight loss effect brought by this diet strategy is also there. Researchers also suggested that specific protein intake needs to be tailored, and excessive reduction of protein may also cause serious health conditions.
