The majority of the elderly pay great attention to health issues. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, my country will move from mild aging to moderate aging, and it is very urgent and important to help the elderly achieve healthy aging. What work has the National Health Commission done to promote healthy aging, and what are the next considerations in the face of the new situation of population aging?
Wang Haidong, Director of the Aging Department of the National Health Commission:
Every family has elderly people, and everyone will grow old. The elderly are most concerned about health issues. We also often say that we must achieve the goal of healthy aging. Simply put, healthy aging is to maintain the internal abilities of the elderly, improve the external environment of the elderly, and extend the healthy life expectancy of the elderly. Therefore, healthy aging is the lowest cost and best-in-class means and way to cope with population aging. In recent years, the National Health Commission has been committed to promoting healthy aging and has mainly carried out the following tasks:
On the one hand, it has carried out solid health services for the elderly. We have specially issued a policy document to establish and improve the elderly health service system, and clarified that it is necessary to establish and improve the " six-in-one " elderly health service system that is comprehensive and continuous, covering urban and rural areas. This is our purpose and goal, and it is also a work task. At the same time, we have carried out a series of activities to strengthen health education for the elderly through various means. To implement health management services for the elderly, in 2021, about 120 million elderly people aged 65 and above received health management services in urban and rural communities. Promote the construction of elderly-friendly medical institutions and implement measures to facilitate medical treatment for the elderly. We often say that seeing a doctor is difficult, and seeing a doctor is even more difficult for the elderly. It is not only difficult for the elderly to see a doctor, but also difficult for the elderly to see a doctor. Therefore, we have taken many measures to facilitate the elderly to see a doctor. We have carried out national palliative care pilot projects in 91 cities (districts). As of the end of 2021, there will be 4,685 second-level and above comprehensive hospitals with geriatric medicine. In 2025, we will build geriatric medicine in more than 60% of second-level and above comprehensive hospitals. About 21,000 elderly-friendly medical and health institutions have been built, and more than 1,000 medical and health institutions have been installed in palliative care departments.
On the other hand, increase health protection efforts. Geriatric medical talent training has been included in the central government's transfer payment project, which is the first time it has been included. The national aging health information management system has been completed and operated, which is also the first time it has been completed. Establish a statistical survey system for elderly health and carry out the first survey on the health literacy of the elderly in my country. A professional committee on elderly health standards has been established to promote the construction of standards and specifications in the field of elderly health.
Next step, we will continue to do a good job in preventing and health care for the elderly, medical services, health care, etc., especially we must carry out four major actions: oral health, nutrition improvement of the elderly, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and psychological care for the elderly. The purpose is to improve the active health ability of the elderly, improve the health literacy and health level of the elderly, so that the elderly will get sick less, get sick late, and avoid serious illness. Thanks.
