It is said that a picture of the fundus of the eye can reveal the disease early!
Is fundus examination really so magical?
Who needs to check?

Recently, "Li Live Broadcast·Famous Doctor Consultation" specially invited Luan Jie, director of the ophthalmology department of Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University , to come into the live broadcast room to pay attention to fundus health with us.

Fundus diseases "favor" these people more!
Fundus, as the name suggests, is the tissue at the back of the eyeball, that is, the inner membrane of the eyeball—retina, optic head, macula, and central retinal artery and vein. Once fundus lesions occur, it will have a great impact on vision: loss of visual field, blurred vision, blindness... The following groups of people need to be especially vigilant about fundus lesions.
01 Premature infants

With the continuous development of medical technology, the survival rate of low-weight premature infants is getting higher and higher. This is a gratifying thing. However, parents must still be reminded that premature infants with a gestational age of less than 32 weeks, a birth weight of less than 2kg or a history of inhaling high concentrations of oxygen are more likely to develop retinopathy and require regular fundus screening.
02 Elderly people

As we age, our eyes also slowly age. This decline may cause fundus diseases such as posterior vitreous detachment, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and so on. When the elderly experience abnormal vision, many people will think it is presbyopia. In fact, this is not the case. They must seek medical examination as soon as possible to rule out fundus lesions.
03 Patients with high myopia

High myopia will cause the axial length of the eye to become longer, and the retina will also be elongated, making the retina more fragile and more prone to pathological changes, such as chorioretinal atrophy, macular hemorrhage, etc. At the same time, the higher the degree of myopia, the higher the probability of suffering from fundus diseases. Therefore, to prevent myopia, we should start from a young age, reduce the use of eyes at close range, and ensure sufficient outdoor time every day.
04 The retina of patients with various chronic diseases

The fundus of the retina is composed of nerves and vascular tissue, and retinal blood vessels are the only blood vessels that can be seen non-invasively in vivo. Diseases related to blood vessels throughout the body usually have lesions in the retinal blood vessels of the eyes. For example, diabetes can easily cause diabetic retinopathy, hypertension can easily cause hypertensive retinopathy , retinal vein vascular occlusion and other diseases. For patients with chronic vascular-related diseases, controlling the condition is the best way to reduce the occurrence of fundus lesions.
A photo makes fundus diseases invisible
How to detect fundus diseases as early as possible? A fundus photo will do the trick. Fundoscopy or panretinoscopy is a conventional method for examining the fundus of the eye, while wide-angle or panoramic fundus photography can clearly reflect whether there are lesions in the nerves and blood vessels of the retina, which is helpful for the early diagnosis and treatment of various eye diseases. It can also help with the discovery and diagnosis of some systemic diseases.
Director Luan Jie suggested:
Premature infants at risk of retinopathy need to have fundus examinations every two weeks until the blood vessels in the eyes develop normally.
People with myopia greater than 600 degrees and chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, or hyperglycemia are recommended to have a fundus examination every year.
Elderly people should also seek medical treatment in time if they have abnormality such as blurred vision to rule out fundus lesions as soon as possible.
