From December 20 to 21, 2022, the Second China Psychological Counselor Career Development Conference was held. This conference adopts the form of online live broadcast, and venues are set up in Beijing and Chengyang District of Qingdao to provide participants with sufficient space for communication and display.
The conference arranged a total of 7 theme reports and more than 20 special reports, including "Current Status and Development Trends of Chinese Psychological Service Institutions", "Psychological Counselor Academic Education and Training Model", "Historic Opportunities and Challenges - Huge Demand and Talent Bottleneck in the Psychological Counseling Industry".
The most concerning topic here is the process of evaluating the professional level of psychological counselors.
Since the country canceled the psychological counselor qualification examination in September 2017, the psychological counseling industry is currently in chaos. There is no policy support, no guarantee of laws and regulations, and there is a lack of corresponding regulatory agencies.
How new people enter the industry has become the expectation of many people.
Unfortunately, there is still no definite answer to the professional evaluation standards for psychological counselors. A statement issued by the Mental Health Association two days ago chilled everyone's hearts. The three associations and one institute failed to reach a consensus, and the evaluation of psychological counselors also came to nothing.
It is not difficult to understand the differences that lead to this phenomenon. The main reason is that everyone is incompatible with the issue of the training interests of psychological counselors. Everyone has their own calculations in their hearts and wants to get more benefits from training counselors.
In the psychological counseling industry market, the largest income segment is the training of counselors. There are not many people who provide psychological counseling, but only a bunch of people who provide training and courses. This chaos continues to this day.
Some people keep tabs on their psychological problems and are reluctant to take the initiative to seek consultation. Instead, they want to save themselves through the process of training and learning psychology , which has also led to the popularity of the training market.
I had the same idea and attitude before. When I first planned to pursue this career, I went to many places. Many institutions were cutting leeks and selling courses to you as soon as I went there. They said everywhere that this career is a good one and that you can earn a high income after learning it. You won’t have to worry about development in the future. A monthly income of 40,000 to 50,000 yuan is not a dream.
But later I discovered that this was not the case. After being deceived by some institutions, I met a better teacher and truly understood the difficulty of this industry.
This teacher was very kind. When I said that I wanted to work in an organization, he immediately rejected me and said not to rush into this career. This industry is not very profitable and very hard. Start learning part-time first. When you have enough ability and experience, you can do this job full-time.
I am very grateful to him. Fortunately, he persuaded me to quit and did not cut my leeks in order to make money. When I offered to study with him at a high price, he did not agree to me in one breath. Instead, he patiently dissuaded me and popularized the industry. After carefully understanding my situation, he pointed out the direction, so that I could stay in this industry.
The psychological counseling industry is indeed quite deep, and it is not suitable for newcomers to rush into the industry. Let alone whether they can do counseling, whether they can support themselves is still a problem. When you first start in the industry, you will have no visitors and not much income, which will make it difficult for you to get ahead in this industry.
As my teacher said, this industry is a profession where slow work results in meticulous work. If you are successful in consulting and have rich experience, your visitors will trust you, and your reputation will gradually accumulate, and more people will come to you for consultation in the future.
If you have the mentality of eager for quick success and quick profit from the beginning, you will not be able to do this career well.
You still have to take your time, find a good teacher for personal experience and learning, and go to an institution to grow well. After three to five years, you will be able to gain a firm foothold in this industry.
Therefore, in my opinion, the Second China Psychological Counselor Professional Development Conference is not a successful conference. There are too many interest entanglements within the industry, and there is no real work for this industry from an industry perspective.
Before legal, regulatory and other matters are implemented, the psychological counseling industry will still face turmoil, and the real spring will only come after the industry is standardized.
